Possibly neither. I'll say this again (

Many, if not all unmarked HDCDs do not actually contain HDCD information. The HDCD light / logo is not an indication of HDCD information, it only indicates the presence of the HDCD flag.
I recently bought David Crosby's "If I Could Only Remember My Name" that's tagged HDCD. What a hoot.
It sounds great, but no HDCD light. The web site of its producer, Stephen Barncard (“If I Could Only Remember My Name” Official Website) confirms that this is the standard response. He blames Rhino/Warner Brothers for poor quality control. The album deserves a special award for dashing expectations. Are there other CDs that promise HDCD but fail to deliver?
another one just found ... Arild Andersen Group: Electra
It's the japanese release with cat# UCCE-1057 (no HDCD logo except in my Denon)
Don't know if the european release has the HDCD encoding, too ... as I don't have it. Never saw a HDCD-CD from ECM. On the other hand, why would they master a new CD just for the japanese market?
Has anyone tried the commandline hdcd converter which converts a 16bit wav file into a 24bit one?
It can be found here: Index of /~cjk32/hdcd
This is how you use it: hdcd.exe < 16bit.wav > 24bit.wav
The resulting 24bit wavs can be burnt to dvd quite easily, or just listened to on a PC with a 24bit sound card. This may be helpful as I don't know of any decent hdcd systems being sold at the moment.
The Bali Session, Ryko, produced by Mickey Hart. The CD cover doesn't say HDCD, but the CDs do. The fidelity does wonders with the gamelan's resonance.
