Went to the 800 amp thread. Many won't even look at a amp under $2000. I find this hard to believe. As my Asgard 2 $250 amp is quite good.

I was originally led to believe you need to spend a lot on an amp if you've spent a lot on your headphones but it's just not true. It's more about finding an amp that has a sound you like than anything else.

Thx for all the replies. I could bump up my budget. I will research the violectric. Which tube amp should I investigate? Can u get a tube amp for $1000

You could get the Feliks Audio Espressivo and some extra valves for just under $1k

I have the original version that was slightly cheaper, and it works wonderfully with the HD800s

My understanding is that many folks want to tame the shrieking upper-mid of the 800 with tube, and that's why 800 has the reputation of being picky on amp/source/genre/etc. I have never compared my 800s with the 800, but I think 800s sounds pretty good on just about anything, and it sounds great with great amps. I bought a Emotiva A-100 from Guidostrunk, and I think my 800s sounds very good with it.

I would recommend Emotiva A-100, and at just over $200, it is of incredible value.

That amp is so underrated bro. Most look at the price and assume that for $230 new. It can't possibly sound that good. Lol.

I absolutely preferred the Emo , over my Mj2, and Mj1. I sold my Mj2 , one month after aquiring the Emo. I'm glad you got it Rex!

Try Chord Mojo (DAC/amp) between your Fiio and HD 800 S... You might have to search the Mojo thread to find out the right way to connect your Fiio as I think there are different versions of it.

Now playing: Simon Patterson - F16

Thx. I' would spend more money if i found something better. I'm up to $1200 budget for a amp

Tubes:
Sonett
Sonett 2
Mjolnir 2
Decaware csp3
Torpedo 3

The only two solid state amps I would ever consider for the 800/800S is a Black Widow or Ragnarok. If not these two, then go with a tube amp.

Sending you a PM with more.
