HD800 and T1 musings...
May 14, 2014 at 7:15 PM Post #916 of 1,024
The T1 will give you a more impactful bass. The HD800 will give you a more expansive soundstage if you are using a player with Dolby Headphone. I generally use my HD800 for movies because of the extreme comfort and clarity of the sound particularly voices. If you want more expansive bass the T1,s can produce a more visceral bass with movies.

Same here.

Yes, but the the T1's bass in not much more impactful than the HD800s...and the soundstage of the HD800 is not a lot more expansive than the T1s.    These two cans more alike than they are different.   I had them both in my house at one point and I decided to keep the HD800 mainly because it was more comfortable...and because I hated the T1s cable.

I'll second that the HD800's are phenomenal for movies, the dialogue is crystal clear.

I'm thinking about picking up a pair of T1's to try them again though.... we'll see.

Between these 2 which would be people say perform best with soundtracks and watching movies

It depends on your upfront rig...when I wrote this comparison several years ago (holy crap...that was more than 4 years ago!

), I ended up preferring the T1s by a small margin. But my PS Audio DLIII / MAD Ear+HD setup wasn't up to snuff. But on a rig that's up for it, I'd go with the HD800s every time. I still own my HD800s.

 Just my 2 cents....

Have you ever had the privilege of comparing your Bryston DAC to say a Perfect Wave mk2 DAC or similar?

Thanks

Funny you should ask...I did compare it partially to the PWD2 when I reviewed the BDA-2:

No worries. Both are outstanding DACs IMO.

Nice impressions there, I can certainly understand why so many HD800 owners favor the PW mk2 if they ever so slightly roll of the treble. Should be a good match.

Same with T1 really... to stay on topic..... it can also be a little bright in the treble which you need to be careful with.

The Bryston looks like a great piece of kit!!

I agree Peter. I fell in love with my WA5-LE when I listen to my T1s out of one of them at Canjam. After I got mine I got the HD800 and since then I liked them even more than the T1 in my rig. (Mac Mini server, Bricasti M1 and WA5-LE). I listen to the HD800 out of the new McIntosh MHA-100 and IMO they sounded even better than out of my Woo. The bass in the HD800/Mc combo was to die for. Poeple that say the HD800 are lean would be totally surprised.

I am thinking of selling my T1 but the issue is the money I have in them with the Zeus cable.

Has anybody heard these two headphones with Lehmann black cube. I know that Sennheiser used this amp to audition HD800s so they should be okay. How about the T1? I have a Nuforce HDP, but i´m seriously considering upgrading to Lehmann.

Before you go spending all that money on the Lehmann you really should consider saving a lot and look at the Matrix M Stage. There has been a lot written about it on the forum so you can do the reading. It is based on the Black Cube. I have owned one and it works very well with both the T1 and the HD800, If you are really intent on spending over $1000 on an amp there are probably better choices. I went up to the Auralic Taurus and never looked back but there are many choices in that price range.
