If you're looking for the low end, go for one of the solid state desktop amps. The Shiit Asgaard gets a lot of good reviews. Also look at the Gilmore Lite, M^3, CK2III, and others in that range.

My friend has a pair of these that I got to listen to recently, and it was paired with a Darkvoice amp. I'm no audiophile by a long stretch, but it sounded pretty good to me.
