FINALLY got my HD600's. I started listening to some vinyl about two hours ago (Kid A and first album of Hurry Up, We're Dreaming). These phones are outstanding!!!! I absolutely love the clarity I get with these things. The mids/treble are terrific. I definitely would not want them drawn back at all (HD650). The only criticism I have at the moment is the soundstage could be bigger, but at $320 I doubt I could have done much better, so I'm satisfied. Isn't the HD650's soundstage just a little better? I think the bass in fine. For Kid A I used the "loudness" position on my receiver. I generally switch to this for records that lack bass, but imo sound better with the alteration. On the other hand I think Hurry Up, We're Dreaming is sonically an incredible record and the 600's highlight that. I've turned the volume knob up as far as I can handle and the sound is still 100% clear (never experienced this before). I adjusted the bass on this record as well, but this time I just turned the bass knob to +1. Based on my conversations with everyone I think I made the right decision. IMO it's good and more adaptive to have a neutral pair of headphones as your starting point and adjust the receiver on a case by case basis. Again I want to reiterate how great the mids and treble are! I have no idea why you would want these drawn back. Thank you to everyone in this thread that gave me advice and led me to a successful purchase of my first audiophile phones! Now back to enjoying music!
Also, I forgot to add how damn comfortable these phones are. Absolutely no fatigue at all.
