Great headphone sound? It’s in the CAN! iFi audio ZEN CAN!

Just recently one our customer reported back that he had that problem. It turned out that a 4.4mm cable that went in-between his ZEN DAC and ZEN CAN was faulty and didn't provide earth to the latter ZEN.
The problem still remains even with RCA cables connection, and it is more noticeable at high gain, so it seems my Can is poorly grounded, my Zen Dac alone does not have this problem, but there is nothing that affects the overall performance so I don't care about it any longer, and I didn't expect high-end quality from a cheap Chinese product in the first place either.

Mine does the same, but if I put my hand on the chassi it disappear, it seems as it is some earth problem.

Correct, when you put your hand on the system you are adding ground.

In order to fix this, you can check out our Groundhog+ kit here: https://ifi-audio.com/products/groundhog/

For $60! Lol, no thanks, I can live with it as long it is quiet when the volume knob is fixed.

I understand your point of view as well!

Does anyone know the output voltage of the 4.4mm balanced preamp out on the back of the CAN?

  • Class A discrete output buffer from the flagship Pro iCAN using Op-Amp (OV2637A)
What does this mean ? Is this amp traditional class A amp or ''output buffer'' means something different ? How much of it is class A ? For example Schiit says Asgard 3 is ''500mW of Class A bias''

What does this mean ?

This means that ZEN CAN runs on a discrete output buffer biased into class A that also incorporates our own operational amplifier (OV2637A). I'd have to ask our engineers how long that circuit remains into class A however. Hope this helps, thanks!

Tidal on Mac > iFi ZEN DAC Signature > iFi ZEN CAN > Beyerdynamic DT 880 600 ohm [ Balanced ]

Running a DT 880 600 ohm fully balanced out of my ZEN stack.

Suffice to say, the ZEN CAN powers them with aplomb.

Incredibly effortless sounding with plenty of headroom available. I listen loud and rarely go past 12 o’clock on the +12dB gain setting, although I could easily settle at +6dB.

Bass deserves special mention here too. Taut, textured, and quick, with zero hint of distortion.

Other amps I’ve paired the DT 880 with: Drop + THX AAA 789, Monolith Liquid Platinum, Schiit Valhalla 2.

Let’s just say the ZEN CAN doesn’t leave me wanting in the least.
