I will look for any posts in the proper areas, lol

Cheers!!
It’s going to be a few weeks, at the least, before I can get it up and running permanently. When I do I’ll stick my impressions on the Schiit Happened thread, or Rekkr thread, if there is one. First impressions were promising.

Hello !

When I play / pause my music I have a pop noise comming from my friend's iFi Zen Dac v2 (the more I set the output bitrate high, the more I can hear the pop when pausing ? unpausing).

I’ve disabled every options inside power management settings, no energy saving, so usb sleep mode, etc. and still got this problem. I’ve even tried to use it with the 5V power supply but same thing.

The only solution i've found is to use an app called SoundKeeper, which with some settings plays a 1hz sound at 0.1% volume which is inaudible. But I would prefer to just don't have to use this app.

Thanks for the help

Is the source of the music a streaming service ?

I use Tidal and Apple Music and music from Tidal has a slight pop or click on starting an MQA song. It seems to be something to do with the DAC establishing the appropriate bit depth and sample rate settings and it does that on pretty well any DAC I use including several iFi products.

Apple Music doesn't do it seemingly because they use PCM (ALAC) and there is not so much going on at the start of playback for the DAC to establish what it is processing.

Is does that on YouTube, Apple Music, etc. Everything to be honnest. Using the SoundKeeper app works but it’s not really a perfect solution..

I have a ZEN CAN and a ZEN DAC V2 on order. I plan to stack them using the supplied RCA cables. Primary source is streaming Tidal via MacBook Air connected to the DAC using USB.

I also have a CD player that I'd like to incorporate so I could alternate between MQA Tidal streaming and CDs. Is this possible with my planned set up?

Or If I was to connect the stack using a balanced 4.4mm-to-4.4mm cable, that would "free up" the RCAs to connect the CD player via RCA?

Headphones are Sennheiser HD 660S2s using a SE Corpse Cable GraveDigger cable.

New to this part of the audio hobby so I appreciate any insight.

I would recommend using a 4.4mm cable between the DAC and CAN, and it's the setup I have. That will free up the other inputs on the CAN for whatever other use cases you have. When I got my 4.4mm cable, there weren't a lot of choices, but there are now, so don't spend too much on it for the "audiophile" quality. It's a short cable, so any decent short 4.4mm will do fine.

Hi and thank you for the reply and advice. I will look for a 4.4mm cable to connect the stack.

Regarding my question, if I'm understanding correctly, if I connect the stack using a 4.4mm cable, I can also connect my CD player using RCA, thus having 2 music sources to listen to? I would toggle between inputs 1 (RCA) and 3 (balanced) to select my source on the CAN?

I know I could try it once the components arrive but would like to try and plan ahead.

Exactly. And you'll still have the single ended (3.5mm) aux input of you wanted to connect something else. :relaxed::thumbsup:

@GlenAppleton is correct here best to use the 4.4mm between as he said.

Here is an Amazon link to one I have used as well as our branded cable...

The NewFantasia cables are really nice. I have an extension 4.4mm male to 4.4mm female (1.5 meters) that I use with my balanced IEMs, and I love the wood jack housing on each end. 🙂
