Thank you I was looking for it and only seem to find the HD650 thread. Appreciate it!

Oh btw I was posting it here because I will be using M9XX as dac. But yea seems better to ask in the HD600 thread.

is there any under than $500 amp that will improve the HD600 over the amp on the M9XX?

If I were you, I would just use the M9XX for now, try amps at meets, and see what you like. The Asgard 2 is better for solid state being a discrete, no feedback amplifier. The Vali 2, Valhalla 2, and Speedball Crack if you like tubes; the staging will be better on those tubes but they all sound tubey.

Agree with psalmanazar here. No real reason to buy a separate amp for the HD600 unless you're gonna go to the $800-1000 range. Vali2 sounds pretty good with the HD600 if you really just want a separate amp. Vali2 is a HUGE improvement over Vali1, to the point where my only real issue with it is that it uses a fairly uncommon tube type and thus is a bit harder to find good tubes if you want to experiment with its sound.

I don't know that Vali2 is a better amp for HD600 than the m9XX, but it will sound warmer, which a lot of people desire with HD600. HiFiMan EF2C is another option if you don't listen super loud, and it uses the EF95 tube family which have a lot better options for tube rolling. Also the little dot series are good matches for HD600 as well. If you get the EF2C, DO NOT use its DAC, which is total garbage, consider the EF2C as purely amp only.

I would personally endorse the Little Dot mk3 as one of the bestest amp for your HD600.

The Little Dot MK III was my best first upgrade to the sound of my HD650s.  Add a couple Mullard M8100 (CV4010) vintage matched driver tubes and you've got quite a first step into the tube amp obsession.  I've since moved to a fully balanced setup with a MK VI+ and Cardas balanced cables, but the first noteworthy upgrade was the cute, little MK III.

Note that you still need a good DAC like the m9XX or m920.

I look forward to receiving my Grace m9xx, which I ordered during the latest drop. I am convinced it will sound excellent paired with my Audeze LCD-X.

Cheers,
Vincent

BTW: this is my first post on Head-fi; excited to be part of this community!

Welcome !

I thinks you will love what you hear as well as the ergonomics of the interface; it is a favorite of mine.

Today I received the Grace m9xx, and so far I love it. It sounds great with my LCD-X as well as with my Westone W40 iems. With the Westones I can hear a very, very slight hiss, but that doesn't bother me at all, as it is very soft and barely audible. The ergonomics are indeed wonderful, and the knob feels very nice. Great purchase!

Cheers,
Vincent

I just received the m9xx. Noticed hissing with on both hd600 and ath-m50x on USB inputs directly from a macbook pro.

No hiss noticed with Toslink. Is that common ? Haven't try other options to power up the m9xx yet.

Is some (noticeable) hiss normal with the m9xx, or could this be a problem with this production run? Really hoping it's not the latter, mine is scheduled to arrive today.

I have no hiss with any of my headphones. I'd contact Grace.

I only get a low-level hiss with my very sensitive IEMs when no music is playing, never with any of my full-sized headphones. That said, with the IEMs, once music is played the soft hiss thankfully disappears even in quiet sections of the music.
