Does anyone have a picture of this little bugger? I need spy photos to feed my hunger. This unit is the perfect evolutionary step.

Look up the wadia i170 and you will understand why I use transport. As for transporting it is transporting a digital signal INTO a separate higher quality dac that in this case will probably be built into the unit but it may have a port to bypass that. But the conversion is in the dac the Gr9 unit itself is not tricking but telling the ipod to send out a bitperfect digital signal bypassing all internal components pretty much.

Points taken Thanks

Just happened on this thread. Very interesting stuff here. I'm thinking that this product would be a lot more useful if it worked like the iTransport in that it not only has its own DAC but it works as a simple transport for the digital signal so that one could use his/her own portable DAC/Amp combo. So a Coaxial cable connector would be great for this thing.

It would be quite a breakthrough considering the monster size of the Wadia iTransport!! The Wadia iTransport is definitely not for portable purposes, but a small unit as this could be used both for portable and non-portable applications if it could function as a simple transport for the iPod's digital signal.

Should be fun too getting Apple to agree with commercialising this portable solution. Seems that Apple is very secretive and protective regarding such rights.

I really appreciate the form factor of the Rx amp. Thin and flat. It goes a lot better with iPods than the RSA amps. I hope that they stick to that format. A match box on an iPod is tacky.

They have allowed a home unit from Wadia that does the same. So hopefully this should be the same. This is a game changing portable device for sure!

One wonders what sort of royalties Apple get's for each iTransport that's sold and what the terms of agreement are.

The pressure is on to have something fully functional at CanJam'10 this year, but we'll see how it goes. This is exponentially more difficult, complicated, and expensive than designing an analog-in/analog-out amp.

Ouch So we are going to wait at least 6 months for this. ARRRRRGGGG!!!!!

Though not as small as I was hoping, it's still a lot more compact than the iTransport. Can't a coaxial output be included somewhere there?

He just said that the photo isn't the current version, which is now smaller than the second revision in the photo.

It appears as though, if I am interested in purchasing my first portable headphone amp (and an Rx is at the top of my list) I should go ahead with that purchase because whatever GR9 creates will be fully compatible with the Rx. Is there any reason why I should wait an entirety (or six-ish months) for a better option? Like fully integrated Transport/Amp? It seems if someone is going through the trouble of maximizing sound quality, one should eliminate the analog transfer of signal between said units. OR does that open an opportunity to infinitly tweek the performance of the portable rig? What do you guys think?

Good segue, I can tell you that there will shortly be a Rx USB Li-Ion powered DAC. This will be will uses the same enclosure as the Rx is in now. Because Matt is the Obi-wan on battery charging circuitry, it will have a long play time.

There will at the same time be a Rx SPDIF DAC, also in the same thin Rx enclosure.

More details soon.

Ken

As stated earlier I believe this will be in the same enclosure as the Rx amp.

I can't wait for this thing!!

Do!
