Google's new browser, Chrome

Don't they all have **** mode now? heh.

Chrome does a nice job of preventing phishing scams too. It automatically picks-up 32-bit url hashes every 30 minutes to compare with what your browsing.

For now, I'll stick with OpenDNS which also prevents phishing sites and it's faster than the garbage from Comcast.

Ctrl+Shift+N opens a new window with a shady character wearing a hat in the upper left corner, everything viewed in this mode is forgotten by Chrome after closing the window.

edit: except google search history if you are still logged into a google account (gmail)

It's interesting that Google would do this, given how much of their revenue depends on serving ads according to their data mining operations. I can't imagine that their advertisers are incredibly happy with this.

The current beta of IE also has this feature, and the media treated it a a shot across Google's bow. I don't think Google would be offering this feature if it were going to scuttle their ad business, which provides most of their revenue. Hence, they must have something else up their sleeve.

Should be interesting.

P.S.: I downloaded the beta of IE 8, and it crashed approximately every 10 to 15 minutes. The more things change...

I can't even be bothered to try IE8, IE is so crap compared to the rest, unless it is much improved feature and layout wise, i will never be interested.

Matt

I tried the first public beta of IE8, and while the new features are actually quite nice, especially the private browsing, it was extremely unstable. I uninstalled it the same day that I loaded it, after it crashed numerous times. This may improve with future builds, but right now I'm staying away from it.

Chrome, on the other hand, has been remarkably stable since I installed it.

Still no fun for us who don't run MS Windows...

For you Linux and Mac users, there is a Wine port, i.e., not native. Not an official release but it could be a good way to test it out.

CrossOver Chromium

On a related note, WebKit got a big boost in JS performance with Squirlfish Extreme surpassing Chrome. It's in the latest nightlies.

Well, I've been using the chrome exclusively for the past few days and I have to say I'm starting to like this thing. By any stretch, it's not better than FF (yet), but I kinda like it's simplicity. I just heard that the chrome will be compatible with 3rd party extensions in the future as I predicted. This probably means a serious competition between FF and the chrome, IMO.
