Hi guys,

I'm looking for a bassy headphone, but the mids and highs should be good as well. You could say that I'm looking for an almost neutral headphone, with a bit of focus on the bass. Something like the Miles Davis Tribute IEMs, but in a headphone (and with slightly better mids and highs if possible).

Thanks!
Jimmy

A fellow guitar player? Also, doesn't the HD650 cost way more? It sounds interesting though.

I wouldn't call the HD650 that bassy.  Are you looking for open or closed headphones?

It doesn't really matter, I'm probably just going to use it at home. Suggestions for both would be great though.

I havn't tried them out, but Kenwood KH-K1000 and Philips Fidelio L1 have gotten some good mentions recently on head-fi.  You might be able to find a good deal or a used K1000 for close to your budget.  I'm not recommending them, but just giving you a potential starting point for research.

Denon DN-HP700 and Philips Fidelio L1 comes to my mind. Both are semi-open design with quite good isolation for such design. HP700 is more on-ear than around-ear if that matters. HP700 may be a bit on the cheaper side but to my ears delivers sound quality way above its price point, to me as a basshead I wanted a bit more bass personally but I absolutely adored the midrange and the soundstage especiallly.

Hey guys,

I'm currently looking at the Philips Fidelio L1, the Beyerdynamic DT880 (unsure what Ohm, 250?), the AKG K701 or the Sennheiser HD598 (don't know if the 650 is in my budget) and the Denon D2000. Which one would you recommend?

Thanks!

If you want a somewhat bassy headphone you can scratch the DT880, K701 and HD598 off your list.

If it means anything, I got my HD650's from an official dealer for €280, so it's not necessarily out of your budget. And then there is always the used market if you're patient enough to wait for one passing by.

NETHERLANDS! Where did you get yours, Tilpo?

Bax-shop.nl

They are €316 there now. I used their lowest price guarantee to get the price down a little, since there was another store selling it for a much lower price. That one wasn't an official dealer and looked a bit shady, so I decided to buy them via bax-shop instead.

What was the shady dealer you used? I think I could stretch for 280, as I love music.

It was bestelkeus.nl, but they don't have the ridiculously low price anymore (I think it was something like €230, which seemed impossible).
I think within the Netherlands €316 is the best deal you're gonna get on a new pair as it is now. That is definitely worth it, but you shouldn't push yourself if you find that price too high.

You could get the HD600, also from bax-shop, for €275, which is more fitting of your budget. Lots of people actually prefer the HD600 over the HD650, so it can't be all that bad. It is however less bassy than the HD650, and more towards neutrality.

Edit: Another store has the HD600's for €200, but it says they are out of stock. You could try haggling with bax-shop through their lowest price guarantee and get a better deal on them.
