Any comparisons yet between the new Shokz opendots one and the Bose ultra open?
I very much prefer the Opendots. Using them right now.

Might be a silly question but do you mind confirming if the Rex5 would be OK during workouts that do get sweaty, i.e. biking/snowboarding, or potentially getting caught in the rain for example? I know it has no IP rating but not sure if it was a logistical/licensing issue etc.
I don't have them but people mention the weight and them staying in(esp. sweaty) so that would be another aspect. I'm sure the owners can chime in.

I can tell you since they have metal inner housings and temp. fluctuation(difference between cooler metal and warmer ear canals) and condensation is a possible issue depending on temperature/weather. I have had some of that and you might need to stick with plastic housings for active stuff or the sound could go out as water condenses and builds up. Cold temps during snowboarding means cold air outside meeting ear canal warmth inside and then those two meet and a good chance you may get water build up.

Back in the days, when I worked with hearing aids

Condensation death was common

And those are made from plastic. I would think a metal housing would suffer that type of problem as well, if not worse.

Even with codecs like Aptx Lossless or SBC? If you have a stable connection they are pretty much lossless.
Please look at the date of when the post was made.

The codec matters less than the tuning. You can now get very nice-sounding TWS at most price ranges, starting from the Moondrop Space Travel or Tanchjim Mino, to the Galaxy Buds Pro 2, the Technics EAH-AZ100, Apple's AirPods Pro 2, I've heard good things about the Nothing TWS as well (outside of the first model), some people also love the bassy Sony WF-1000XM5 even though most audiophiles, whose opinions I respect, say that it's inferior in terms of technical performance compared to their XM3 model.

There are many great options on the market, and you don't need to buy the latest model to get the best sound quality and you can often find great deals if you search for yesteryear's models.

Ambient mode imbalance.
When removing the buds whilst music playing and putting in the case, the wear detection goes crazy and the music resumes for a sec, inside the case.

Did you notice any difference between default zero EQ and the True Sound?
I really haven't had any of those issues. There was an update when I first used them so I'm not sure if it fixed the issues you experienced.
Im not sure if I can tell a difference between the 2 modes but I wish it would stay on the Truesound.

Interesting in that like the Sennheiser’s and Pi7 1&2, Bowers would save the settings to the buds; like EQ and button preferences…. I really like the EQ transfer as just set and forget. 👍

I just picked up the Moondrop Robin out of curiosity 'cause of all the hype—people say it blows the WF-1000XM5 out of the water. Well, vocals are better, but the timbre sounds kinda fake, not as natural as Sony. Also, with the Robin, it feels like all the sounds are oddly boosted to the same loudness—kinda weird.

What are you liking more? I think the Bose sound great but the Opendots offer so much more at a reasonable price point.
Fit, form and function. Incredibly light. Wireless charging. More bass, fuller. Sadly, I don’t have the Bose anymore to compare. These have more in common with the Huawei Freeclip (which I love) than the Bose.

Once you find the right tips, the Rex5 stays in your ears as well as any tws. I love the Rex5, but I could not get the fit right at all. I tried many eartips, wrote about it on this thread, and found 3 or 4 that worked.

What you need is a wide bore and a very short eartip.

They might work. They are a little long. After going down the Rex5 eartip rat hole, what I found is the Rex5 nozzle is very short and wide. Anything longer than 8mm becomes challenging, which the Azia are.

I posted this a few pages back, but here is where I ended up. (there is a new one I found since I last posted that I like better)

- Acoustune AEX70 - super comfy, fits well.
- Divinus Velvet Wide Bore - people love these for the Rex5, did not work for me.
- Baroque Eletech - these are the new ones. :two_hearts: They rock.
- Dunu S&S - love these too, a little long, so while they are super comfy and sound terrific, they stick out just a little - really it's only a little and not a deal breaker.
I have them. They work great, and they fit. I'm not talking theory. I'm talking I owned this set with these tips.
