There was at least one manufacturer did so, they were a 3 in 1 one you could use as a TWS or non TWS (the small wire round the neck) or Neckband (thick rubber band round your neck) and each add on increased battery life.
AFAIR but not 100% on this. once in Neckband mode you could plug in a cable (probably3.5mm or USB but could have been propriety).
Use you can see, it's possible to make TWS with the wired connection feature and keep such earbuds not too bulky. It seems there is no huge demand for such earbuds
My IMO was the either-or type, don't stick to the first one only Anyway, until someone from us here is a Sony/Sennheiser/other company top manager, we can't know the real reason
AZ80 at certain times can have a 10% difference between buds (in its own App) but once they get nearer 0 it evens out and always ends up around 3% which is pretty good.
I caught this just as the left bud died, right has 3%.

I finished my last playing test (AAC and no ANC for 9h and 5 minutes) with 5% left on the left driver indicated in Technics APP when the right driver stopped...
Hopefully, I will have some time at some point today to post some thoughts on the AZ80 and its sound.
Fit---->Excellent
Build----->Great, nice build, exudes quality. Case is okay, aluminum cover is nice touch
ANC---->Good(Great?) need to test more
Feature Set ---->Excellent
App---->Great
Value---->Moderate
The best sentence is "Seemingly, the earbuds are a fair bit smaller than the WF-1000XM4, further improving comfort." .. till now, in my case, it was a no go for the 1000XM4 (far too thick), and this can be a game changer..
I've been thinking about this a lot. Why can't a company make a true wireless set of IEMs, but have an optional MMCX connector on them just in case you wanna use 'em wired... or when the batter inevitably fails, you won't have to throw them away.
I just hate the throw away mentality of the bluetooth earbuds. I've had so many pairs of AirPods over the years and I'm just sick of chucking them and buying new ones. I've since switched to strictly wires or at least headphones that have the option to be wired like using my CCA CRA+ with the KZ AZ09, but sadly, they don't make a lot of TW Adapters (especially ones that fit Sennheiser stuff)
I don't think this makes much sense. TWS engineering incorporates so much more than drivers, and when it does come to the drivers they are precisely matched for the rest of the tech. Of course the tech needs current to operate, and fitting battery components in to get the smallest form factor is a challenge that unfortunately sacrifices the batteries' easy replaceability. I don't think it's a matter of greed. Yeah you could slap on some cable connection points. But that's further bulk that I certainly wouldn't want to pay extra for because it would probably sound like crap anyway.
This made me laugh a little mostly because I don't know what being inside an empty wood barrel sounds like. Well, since I own the AZs, I guess I do now.
