just got my gs-x this morning and i've been listening to some of my favorite test tracks using a pair of darth beyers and pico as dac/preamp. only SE for now as all my balanced stuff (DAC, cables, etc.) are presently being built.
the first impression is one of nostalgia. what i remember fondly about the GS-1 oozes forth from the gs-x. i don't know if the gs-x is any better than what i remember about my previous da100/gs-1 combo, but that tightness of the bass and that slam factor is certainly present. i don't like the boomy bass of the darths...but it's been replaced by tight and relatively quick bass...so much so that i'm thinking twice about selling these darths now.
anyway, as others have exclaimed previously, the gs-x is a beautiful unit, inflected with justin's attention to detail. the locking umbilical cord is a nice touch. balanced impressions will have to wait for awhile...but soon...hopefully.
