I currently have some AudioTechnica AD700's that I love, but I'm looking for the next step.  Dollar difference aside, should I get the 880's or 990's?  Thanks!

DT990 more fun in hits like MW2 or BFBC2 because of its eargasmic explosive  bass response system.

880 got more accuracy and focus: get them if you're desperate to win

and IMo, keep the AD-700 and never return to these forums again.  I am warning you

I think David. M has a point. If you're using these exclusively for gaming I can't imagine you'll notice a huge difference for all the extra cash you'll be putting out. Gunshots can only sound so crisp and if the 700's are anything like the 900's then positioning is already pretty sweet. Anywho, that's my two cents worth.

In gaming there's not much more you can ask for. If you're looking for a more immersive experience, the DT770 Pro 80s are good for that :)

The soundstaging on the 990s is amazing, and it's got more bass than the 880s.  Good for explosions and gunshots.  I don't know how much of an upgrade it will be over your AD700s though.

I love the DT990s for gaming even over the DT770s. They sound so clear and crisp with excellent soundstage. I feel they are just about perfect for gaming. Both are great options. Of course I can't help as much as I'd like as I've never heard the AD700s.

Haven't heard the DT990 but the AD700 has significantly better soundstage than the DT770. That's about its only advantage sonically. I'm told it has better soundstage than the DT880 (and thus the DT990) but cannot verify this. For the actual sonic signature I typically prefer the DT770 but the AD700 does have better mids than the DT770 (unless you like recessed mids -- like me).
