Maybe mini xlr sockets on each cup would be a better idea? There are a lot of parts and cables available for mini xlr balanced phones and even SE to mini XLR duals
Would recommend the Accessory House Sheepskin NON perforated + Dekoni attenuation rings. About 40 total. Down the line you could look at the Lawton driver mod, 45 bucks, and you will be set.So I decided to take a risk and pull the trigger on a set of Purple Hearts on eBay for, I think, a decent price. I was trying to hold out for newer ones with removable cable but none seemed to pop up. It seems like this is the only tutorial I've seen that shows doing a cable mod without without dremeling the ear cups, but it's also a couple years old so I'm wondering if there is a more recent guide people are doing nowadays.
Also, are these the correct male and female connectors?
I'm confident this is the correct female end. https://store.sacelec.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1475
but which male end would I need between these 2? https://store.sacelec.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1077 or https://store.sacelec.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1472 or maybe neither?
Also I ordered a bunch of Brainwavz ear pads, are these most of the suggested ones to have in ones collection or are there other ear pads I should invest in?
Thanks for any assistance.
Mini XLR appear to be a good bit larger than the SMC connector in that post. Could I modify with those and still avoid changing the cup at all? Thanks. Can confirm the #2963 is the correct connector for the headphone. I don't remember which connector I used for the cable but 2306 looks like the right one. If you want to keep the sound signature closest to stock but want more comfort I suggest you pick up some Dekoni X00 sheep skin or protein leather pads with attenuation rings. Also recommend the Lawton driver side mod to help with some of the distortion. So I decided to take a risk and pull the trigger on a set of Purple Hearts on eBay for, I think, a decent price. Can't say. Don't have the Brainwaz. I followed the recommendations in Hifiguides forum and here. The sound is quite the same as with the originals but way more comfortable. The perforated ones destroyed the sound. So make sure if you try them that you get the NON perforated ones and the dekoni attenuation rings or all the bass will be lost.Mini XLR appear to be a good bit larger than the SMC connector in that post. I really dislike stock pads in terms of not feeling satisfied with the fit. Denon D9200 has excellent pads, but I believe it's a smaller diameter. Pads like those would be a big improvement in comfort. One of best pads in terms of materials and build quality I've ever used. The leather material does feel quite nice. Can't say. THanks. I think I'll grab some of those. Though is it just me or are those two products swapping what's labeled the male and female ends of those connectors? The electronic supply listing labels this a female connected https://store.sacelec.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1475Hey man.
Yes, those are the Male connectors I used.
For the female, there are a few types, I went with something like these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/SMC-Female...G179-RG316-RG188-Cable-Connector/254337599952
For pads, personally I recommend Audio-technica MSR7 pads - the Brainwavz are too deep, add too much material between the driver and your ears. The MSR7 pads can be difficult to get mounted, but they're about the same thickness as the stock pads.

Yeah, those cables are unwieldy. I ended up braiding my stock cables due to their length while I had custom cables on order. Are you talking about wiring the SMC connector to the existing wire or are you talking about wiring the driver to the SMC connectors for the ear cups?Whelp the Purple Hearts from eBay came in. The base on these things is indeed great. That said, holy crap this default cable is insane. It's like the power cable on my mom's old vacuum cleaner. Why did they make it so thick?
I've been looking at some tutorials on wiring SMC connectors. They seem to be designed for a different type of work setup altogether so I'm not necessarily going to be in a hurry to do the wireless conversion. I'll just focus on enjoying them and experimenting with the earpads and attenuation rings I've ordered. Whenever those actually show up.
Unless the cable is already frayed/faulty I'd bet good money that you'd be able to fix those kinks REALLY easily.Hi,I have been checking out a pair of the th-x00 mahoganies. The cable has a kink in it near the earcup, but the seller says it doesn't affect the sound. The kink doesnt look too bad to me, would it be safe to purchase?
That's what I thought. Thanks for your adviceUnless the cable is already frayed/faulty I'd bet good money that you'd be able to fix those kinks REALLY easily.
It happens all the time to my Denon AH D-2000's which have a very similar cable, and it's very easy to fix.
No worries, good luck with the purchase! That's what I thought. Thanks for your advice
