Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

I find it funny that people are worrying about the serial number. Honestly, why would anyone care what serial number is printed on the headphones?
Ok, I can understand "001". But anything above that makes no difference to me.

True.  I got a low serial number on the first drop and I still got a lame number.  Overrated unless you get something cool like 1-9, 69, etc. and the odds of that are so slim.

They just had the E-MU teak for the past week for the same price. Has anyone figured out for sure what the differences are? I've seen a few conflicting things written.

Do these use the same driver with the only differences being branding and choice of wood? Is it the th600 or th900 driver or something else?

Thanks

??  The TH-X00 Mahogony are definitely not sibilant.

I haven't heard them so I couldn't say but I have read multiple accounts of some people finding some sibilance in them. Specifically on Reddit. I am particularly sensitive to it so just saying if it is reduced then fantastic, if it is not there in the first place on either then even better. :)

I A-Bed my Philips X2s and TH-X00 and I returned the X2 because I found them to be sibilant.  Never noticed sibilance on the X00 though.

I love my X2 and never found them sibilant. That said I can't wait to compare the two.

I'm also sensitive to sibilance, and while the thx00s have never reached problem levels for me in that area (I love them overall), I would say that I notice more sibilance from the thx00s (Bifrost to Magni U) than I did from my HD650s (Bifrost to Valhalla2). The real sub-bass more than makes up for it though. If the Purple Hearts have less sibilance, I certainly won't mind.

These Fostex are very easy to tune into your own sound signature. Check out this simple mod thread, you can get more bass, mid, soundstage, smooth out trebles...whatever, just play around with it.
