Hi, I noticed you have the TH XOO and the vali 2. How do they play together? Thanks.

I actually have the Lyr 2, if that's what you meant. The Lyr 2 is an exceptional amp that plays well with a variety of headphones. I'd say it's a little overkill for the TH-X00; my little FiiO E17 does a great job of driving it. But, I also have my AKG K702-65 that likes to have a good amp driving it. I basically bought the Lyr 2 to allow me to experiment with a bunch of different headphones going forward.

Yeah, I loved the Lyr, I really think it's hard to beat as far as versatility goes.  The ***only*** reason I sold mine is because all my headphones now have very similar amping needs, and I decided I was done with desktop stacks.  If I can't toss it in a messenger bag, then it's out.  But the Lyr2 is such a versatile amp.  I did try the THX00 with it as well, and thought it was best in low gain solid state mode, an incredible pairing in that setup.  My thought with the Lyr2 is that you never *need* it in particular.  The reason to own the Lyr2 is for the crazy versatility.  It can go from a warm, powerful tube beast, to a tight, high current linear SS amp in a matter of minutes.

My mistake, thanks for the comeback. I actually have the XOO, X2 and he400S. All driven by the Asgard 2 which I really like. I`m considering trying a hybrid tube amp on the cheap. The Vali 2`s reviews are just coming out so I`ll wait and see what others have to say.

Does the bass suffer though? (This may have been covered in one of the 200+ pages, but I'm not going to check.)

The bass is slightly changed.   Some like the change and some do not.

From what I can gather, the bass tightens up, and the subbass is slightly enhanced.

That's not what I experienced.  The bass became boomy to my ears.   I traded the pads and the new owner loved them.  Both of us owned Denon headphones at the time (he used them on a D5000 and I was using them on a D2000).

I was talking about what people are specifically reporting using the alphas on the TH-X00's

The THX00 and the old Denons are almost identical.   With the same pads on, my Fostex and my Denon sound very similar.

Same here for me... using the current pads on my D2000 (D7K cups/cable) on the TH-X00 I am having a hard time telling them apart. I am going to do the same with the TH-600 and TH-X00 when I get a chance and report back. Also does anyone know what to look for on the drivers to see if the TH600 uses the same drivers as the THX00?

That's  interesting. Someone on eBay sold theirs because they preferred their HD650

Maybe instead of saying these are a steal at $400, we should start saying the D7000 is a ripoff at $1.2k
