Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

My only fear is that it might be too "cold" sounding compared to my D5000, I like warm sound more. How warm are the TH600 and TH900?

I have owned the D5000 and the TH 900 is an ENORMOUS improvement over them. The TH 900 still has the spirit of the old DXK line, but refined in almost every way. Your bass will not be as boomy and it's presentation is way less energetic, but in a good way. I honestly felt like the D5k and D7k were a little TOO "in your face" for me, its better for some rock tracks, but it makes glaring weaknesses in the treble even more pronounced, and can make certain tracks hard to listen to. Honestly, I feel like the TH 900 has one of, if not THE best/most satisfying bass presentations around. I think your inner bass-head will be pleased.

Hey guys! I currently own the Ultrasone signature djs, and am looking to upgrade to a pair of these sweet headphones within about half a year (I really wish it could be sooner. Biding my time by researching everything i can about it haha)

And i was wondering if anyone had a good full size dac/amp combo to recommend for these? I think my budget will be around 600$, although i can save for more if it makes a big enough difference.

I did own the objective o2 amp and have never owned a dac. Looking for something that pairs well with the th900s of course.

PS: my amp just broke, i was satisfied with my setup until that happened and now i cant stop thinking about upgrades, >.<

PPS: Sorry for the poor writing :/

For about $670 you can get the Fostex HP-A8 from PriceJapan.com. Get a screwdriver, open the case, and switch it to US voltage. It's a pretty good pairing at that price, and it's endorsed by Fostex too.

lots of options, consider used to save. Hpa8 still commands my th900 over hugo and is considerably less. I cant speak to 600$ specifically. I just like what the a8 does to the mids and the depth it gives to the sub bass. It may be euphonic, pardon for the term, compared to hugo accuracy, but i dont care. My limited, devaluing, canadian 2 cents.

Thanks for the responses guys. I will do some research on those, they seem pretty good from the reviews. Not sure if i want to open an amp to switch out the power though, tinkering with stuff generally end up terribly by my hand haha.

Or you could even try the TH900 mods :)

It is actually ultra simple, as long as you order the right (special type of) screwdriver from PriceJapan.com that works with the uncommon screw head they use. Once you open the top of the case, you see this:

All you need to do is pull that plug out off the "230V" pins, and push it down onto the "120V" pins. Easy!

Hello Sloomingbla
I own the fostex amp and it plays very well with the TH900 !! My issue is I'm a portable listener always on the go and although I've purchased the amp new from Moon Audio in July it has only been used for a couple hours I also have the toslink 2 meter mini to standard cable for my AK120 dap. If interested in purchasing the amp pm me
 Thanks

Of course, if i happen to run into a bunch of money earlier than expected then i will pm you. My current guess of when i will actually be buying a new amp though is probably around 4-6 months from now, so it may be a while.

Its crazy that the th900s are running for around 1200$ now, is this a temporary thing? Last time i checked, about a year ago they were selling for almost 2000$.
