Listen to any song with prominent bass instrumentals (no need for pure basshead songs).
The TH900 will thump/rattle your head along with those notes when they come up, while the HD800 will give you nothing.
Its a very pleasant experience & one that gave me the wow factor.
Also if you haven't tried it yet, the shelf liner mode does help bring the TH900 very close to the HD800 in sound signature minus the thin bass of course.
I hear you, although I disagree on the HD800 giving "nothing". As prosaic as it sounds, I have to throw it out there that you haven't heard the Sennheiser's out of a synergistic setup. The bass is punchy, fast, tight and best of all articulate. Thankfully, the TH900 has not rattled my brain, though it has thumped a bit. I actually think the bass is tastefully done, which was an area I loathed with both the D5000/D7000.
In some ways the TH900 reminds me of the SR007 (though the Stax is less V shaped, more bloom in the bass, and ultimately sweeter sounding and more articulate). I'll keep plugging along until I find the right tube for the Fostex. Thankfully my wife enjoys them a great deal and is fond of their presentation for movies.
