For me personally I think that the 900 / Burson combo nails it.  The 160D not as much but still no slouch.

Having the 900 and 800 at my disposal I still find myself reaching for the 900 much more (95% of the time).

I have had an inkling lately to hear the w3000 and could kick myself in the *** for not grabbing one at the time.  Maybe not destined to fall in the L-3000 category as a cult status hp but I predict it being one of those highly collectible pieces we all wish we had pulled the trigger on when the timing was right.

I value the W3000 just as much as the L3000, both for different genres. The L3000 is getting old though and so are the drivers in it. I wonder if the used prices are actually still worth it. I've seen pictures of the drivers of an R10 ...
I wouldn't mind if At released another woodie.

Agreed...L3000 is "Grail" material for a lot of folk still.  Yes it is a bit long in the tooth however,  but its reputation is so lofty and the fact that it was built during a time when AT was really shacking things up really adds to its mystique.

Would be nice to see AT follow that pioneering spirit once again with a "just because we can" type of hp.

Refined Japanese goodness at its best.

Listening to The Empire Strikes Back Soundtrack at the moment and the soundstage is amazing for a closed can, everything is out of the head and well layered.  I think the TH-900 has the smoothest sound and blackest background of all the headphones I've owned.  Listened for seven hours yesterday with no fatigue, the only other headphone I can do that with is the HD 650.

still interested in getting a totl open can. have auditioned most of them. the hd800 is one i'd like to try again.

The definition of the words visceral bass is HE-6.  Truly could not believe the bass, even compared to Lawton TH900's and D7000's.

He-6 is excellence indeed, however good power for it doesn't come cheap and the built is a joke. It's Minimum 1000€ here for that ww2 design. Can't tear apart Königstigers either. Lame Sherman Blechbüchse.

Huh???

On the contrary, good power does come cheap indeed..   Vintage iron or First Watt amps can be had for less than most of the TOTL headphone amps around.  The build is not the best I must admit but far from a  joke - Yes the 560s are much more comfortable but the HE-6 are doable..  Yes again the TH900 are much lighter but I'm not sure it can compete with the HE-6 in all areas of the spectrum..

I'm pretty sure Justin don't care to much if you think his work is ugly and I'm pretty sure he'll say you can keep your money as well.  Besides he has a pretty good following and he sell out all the time.  So that's a PERIOD..

Justin's amps are literal works of art and you need to see them in person to fully understand how brilliantly they are manufactured and put together (and this is from an engineer who's worked in electronics manufacturing for 15+ years). Plus there's what's inside that counts...and I'll take a brilliant KG based design any day of the week.

When driven well, the HE-6 sounds more natural and smoother than the TH900, but the TH900 has more bass and sounds more dynamic, so what you will like depends on your preferred music, source and amp quality.
