Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones

I don't know much at all about the th-600, but I just picked up the he-4 and appreciate the comparison. The he-4 needs a serious amp but will give you something special if you meet the power requirements.

I'll have to hear the th-600 someday.

Its one of the maybe few cases where I'd say: you get what you pay for
Though I own both the TH900 and the TH600 due to some interesting new things happening in my life I do use the TH600 a lot: It really holds its own compared to its older brother. Definitely worth a listen.

I think the only other HP that interests me, that's in the same pricerange as these, are the Beyer T1s, but they're semi-open and I really want a closed pair.

The TH600-900 are semi-closed... non-sealing closed-backs to be exact.

If only HiFiMAN had a closed-back design to put their white company name logo onto, I bet they would do it, but it wouldn't be using platinum foil.

Who cares about the look of a headphone, as long as it is well designed, for use and for sound, and comfortable enough. If you have the money, go for the TH900 already, and don't be afraid to wear it in public.

This is Head-Fi. Only if you don't have the money, then go for the TH600. And if you really have something against traditional Japanese red urushi laquered silver flakes covered cherry wood cups, I'm certain a TH600 owner will be more than happy to exchange his understated magnesium cups for them. (They're really easy to swap.)

Do these basically sound like Denon Dxxxx series but better?

Personally I think the TH-600 look nice, sort of like something Batman would wear.

If they could be had for around £500 I would be very interested, at £900 its just too much for me :frowning2:

I don't know whether the price is justified by the sound as I've not heard them. Regardless, they are considerable out of budget for me.

I've been looking at the TH 900 lately.

They cost me $852 from pricejapan, this include of course the headphones themselves, they delivery to Russia via EMS and commission of pricejapan and PayPal... and they declared the price to be 10200 yen when they shipped (I didn't even asked for it)

I got my TH-600 in about a week after I paid my order

You can get them from PriceJapan, as well as other Japanese retailers for around 500 pounds... never pay the full retail price for either the TH-600 or TH-900

Do they sound like Denon Dxxxx? With that fostex sub bass?

Unfortunately I've never heard the Denons (they were ruthlessly killed before I came around buying them) but the TH600 does have really nice, deep, controlled bass.
