I just bumped down the 110Hz, 156Hz and 220Hz by a few dB and it seems the mids come up a little bit. I didn't notice the bass actually reducing much so it works. Thanks guys.

I don't own a fostex myself but have heard one pretty much for 2.5 hours. I own a LCD2 Rev 2.
 
Compared to the DT770, HD600 and LCD2 I've heard, the bass is more elevated and has more power to it. The LCD2 seemed to be a better "quality" bass but the TH600 is more plentiful. The bass can slightly encroach on the mid range of these a little bit the LCD2 has a better balance. For electronic music I'm sure that the TH600 would please most in punch, rumble and power.

The bass is on a different level but I've only owned the HE500, HD600, Mad Dogs 3.2. The bass extends much further than the HD600 or mad dogs and a little bit more than the HE500s. The TH600 doesn't take much to drive either. I bought it blind and didn't regret it at all. Take with a grain of salt though because I only got these recently

had the HE400 and LCD2 a long while ago. only gonna give a brief comparison because they were all used on different amps/dacs (it wouldn't be a fair comparison).
 
TH600 - Hardest hitting bass, can be bloated/uncontrolled depending on amp, colors bass into songs that normally may have little bass (in a fun way).

LCD2 - Gives what I would think is clean, accurate bass and extends low, fast, has good slam when called upon.
 
HE400 - I can't remember too well but was similar to LCD2 I think/the crazy treble is all I can truly remember.
 
I wouldn't say bass is better on any of these, they're all excellent imo. The bigger differences would be mids/treble.
 
TH600 is significantly more comfortable with than the others if you've had any comfort issues with the other two.

Both the LCD-2 and TH600 do bass very well, but differently. On the LCD-2 (rev 2), the bass starts outside and travels in. On the TH600, the bass swells up inside and travels out.

Sorry I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'starts outside and travels in' and 'swells up inside and travels out'. Can you expand on it? Thanks for the response though

Perhaps like HD650's bass quantity but a lot clean/clearer if i remember correctly

Thanks heaps. That's how I would describe the bass on the LCD2 and HE400 as well so that's nice. And yes the reason I sold the LCD2 was comfort issues, so it seems the TH600 could be good for me. Now just need a good price here in Aus! haha

OK how many have actually listened to both the TH600 and TH900 for an extended period...I mean had both headphones on hand and A/B'd? I have both right now and I think I may actually prefer the 600 for my metal/rock music. I already have LCD-2 for country, jazz, vocalists...I may try the HD800 for classical to get the spaciousness and "air" that most classical recordings need...
To me the 900s are almost too "hi-fi" sounding....very articulate in the upper mids treble almost to the point of clinical but not quite. 600's are definitely more laid back in that area. TH600 bass is nice and punchy/meaty. I kinda enjoy that thick meaty slightly darker sound of the 600s with the metal and rock. They do not fatigue me whereas the 900s might over time. The 900s have good bass but I like the 600 bass better...
I'm wondering how good the 600s would be if I had them sent off for balanced cables? hmmmm.....

I can totally understand why someone would prefer the TH-600 with metal/rock. The signature is slightly better for those genres in specific.

Well Im in a pickle now. The 900s are superb with classical, opera, country. I've never heard a piano sound more accurate and lifelike. The emotion in a singers voice is very apparent due to the superb detail and lifelike tonality. It's like watching a blueray video on a great TV...lol. I really dont wanna buy both the TH600 and 900 so can i live with the 900s for everything? Help me decide..

How do vocals or the upper range perform in comparison to the Mad Dogs? I love my Mad Dogs, but I have been requiring more oomph on the low end.

OK I will make it quick and non controversial. The TH 600's sound better to me than the 900's. Across the board. I only bought a pair of 600's for travelling as I didn't want to scratch the wood of the 900's. The 600's are much more exciting. I am using my trusty Colorfly C4.
