I take it that you're not a big fan of the HD650? I figured I would give them a try since so many people here seem to like them. I had the HD58x and have the HD598 but they just don't have enough resolution for my taste. Although I do like the sound signature. Maybe the HD650 will satisfy my craving.I'm going to complete my Dire Straits run and then let some other phones have some ear time, the Denons are definitely sulking
I like the HD650 just fine but they were my daily driver for over 5 years, so they don't get as much head time as the more recent acquisitions. Just be sure to give them time for your brain to adjust, as they may sound "veiled" but this will disappear after a couple of hours or so and all that remains will be sheer bliss.I take it that you're not a big fan of the HD650? Don't do it, Buddy. Go with the originals- HD 600, and done! When will you youngin's learn, you can't improve on perfection

Thanks for the suggestion. Too late, but I will be able to resale them for more than I paid if I decide to make that move. I will at least be able to experience whether the HD6 Family is right for me or eventually go with a good Planar HP. If I could afford to get Focal or Audeze that would probably be ideal. I will continue to Buy low and Sell high until I get there.Don't do it, Buddy. Go with the originals- HD 600, and done! When will you youngin's learn, you can't improve on perfection

For me it's not one or the other. What the HD 600s do is get the timbre perfect. They're great for vocals, singer/songwriter, and good for a lot of music. Thanks for the suggestion. Planars can be fast or slow, dark or bright, just so many variations.
Anyway, remember to run them off an OTL if you have one, or if not, a solid-state amp with plenty of voltage, and lettuce know how you like them

Beethoven's 5 Piano Concertos performed by Alfred Brendel, Jame Levine, and Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1997)
While it's not an acoustically perfect hall performance (a little dry, thin, and lacking spatial cues), but I love Brendel's performance on this set being thoughtful, passionate, and spot on.

No OTL here, just a lot of warm Luxman solid state magic. It loves higher ohm HP'S. Timbre and imaging are definitely King in my book. I guess that's why the K340 get my favoritism. I'll get back with my impression of the 650 but not until Jada gives the Monitor 10 a good audition hopefully tomorrow. For me it's not one or the other. What the HD 600s do is get the timbre perfect.
