Iraq, Syria, public transportation... Seriously, it just made sense to protect them from the elements when in transport. They rarely leave home, though. Audeze provides similar cases for its LCD series.

I know what you mean though,I've never heard my utopias I'm that scared of scratching the headphones getting them out the case,I just read the reviews and know I've got the best,I've even kept the silicon bead bag to keep them fresh

They are going to make a shorter cable but not shorter by 1 foot. Sounds like someone pulled you leg with your foot still attached..... lol

the units shipped in EMEA starting from january contains the 3m cable (instead of the former 4m)

And here in the U.S. -- where I received my Utopia in late late December -- I got it with the 3m cable.
 
At first, since Focal had not yet announced the cable-length change, I thought it an error.
