Focal Utopia General Discussion

Because he has answers to many of the questions people continue to ask? Just spit-balling here.

I don't think he's the right person to ask questions to as he's quite biased.

He went full rage on me when I was talking about huge margins TOTL headphones have a while ago (but out of respect of the dealers I got many quotes from, I didn't want to make the numbers public). He was obviously trying to cover it up.

I see people asking the same questions over and over, mostly involving warranty and authorized dealers. He seems like he's pretty in touch with Focal and how they operate. He continues to answer these questions, over and over, with solid, detailed answers.

Ask him if Focal is an awesome brand? Of course he'll say yes, he carries their line.

It's a bummer, I look forward to checking this thread for new impressions, gear matching, cables, etc. All I ever see is bitching and moaning about price, warranty, repair costs, etc. It's expensive, the price is listed pretty clearly everywhere. Why are any of these issues still perplexing people?

Hahaha obviously you’ve not paid attention. You’ve not noticed I’m the only guy here that gives you names of alternate access. If I’m so biased and out for myself why would I do that. Why would I tell you the Moon Audio is the ONLY authorized open box dealer for Focal. .... you’re welcome to talk sh*^ about me as long as you can back it up.

I asked you to tell us what those big profit margins where because you said you knew them. You danced like a pop locker about your dealer being discovered if you told us these margins. You know we couldn’t figure that out just by you telling us these margins. You call that rage?

A deal was posted here from a major B&M store and website, and many of us got brand new Utopia's for $2300 delivered

Please post where you got them. There is no prohibition against that.

I can vouch for Adorama that there were no murky details.

I agree, adorama is a very reputable store and I have no issues recommending them. That said, Focal is a differ company to work with, and doesn’t t fit into the adorama discount model very well. The “murkiness” might show if the headphones need repair in a year. Unfortunately we will just have to wait and see. Hopefully it will all work out.

Well, in fairness, he may be doing this to get his companies name out there (which is smart).

I am not against any dealer, but the normal markup on these things is ridiculous. Why should a customer pay $1000-$1700 over a dealers cost, especially given that most dealer's want to charge you a restock fee?

Economics 101. The only relationship of price to cost is that if price is not larger than cost you go out of business. Price is usually set to the highest that the market is perceived to bear. The market obviously sees value in Focal Utopia headphones and their pricing.

Price elasticity comes into play for specials. That is, how many more sales will I achieve if I lower the price by x%. How many less sales will occur if I raise the price by y%.

And there are rare instances where a higher price results in more sales and vice-versa. There are some classic cases of this that I cannot recall as I type.

Think Macy’s, Nordstrom’s, Neiman Marcus. Best service, exchange & return policies in the world. Also the highest prices in the world. You paid up front for that level of customer service.

I had a small credit card wallet I bought from Nordstrom’s I paid about $400 for it. After 20 years I went in and handed it to the salesperson and said this thing finally died, got anything like it you can show me? The salesperson was back in front of me in less than 5 minutes and said, “here, what do you think of this one?” I said it’s perfect wrap it up I’ll take it. She created a receipt and handed me the bag then said “thank you for being a valued customer of Nordstrom’s and have a great day” ....she never asked me to pay a dime so I handed her my Amex and she said “it’s all taken care of sir, thank you and have a great day”. She didn’t even want my old beat up wallet to prove the exchange/replacement. .....sadly this kind of service is all but gone. I saw the same original wallet at JC Penny’s for $279. You know the experience I received from Nordstrom’s was so awesome that I couldn’t care less about the price difference after having such great after sale service like that. Products are’nt sold at those margins anymore. Service has a cost and when margins get lower so does the service.

You mean better service like at Adorama where they have a better return policy (VIP360 members get 60 days, full money back plus shipping paid on their return) and sold me the Utopia's $1700 cheaper!?!

No ......let me know in 20 years if they’ll exchange them because they are old and tired like my wallet .....that’s the service I’m talking about

While I appreciate all the great input people have been making on this thread, It's time to put this discussion to bed. So, please stop. Resist getting in that last thought. Just stop.

Unless you are going to contribute something substantially new, or want to discuss you personal impressions for the utopia, please just count to ten, put on you cans, and listen to your favorite song.

Thanks.

Please, I repeated a billion times I wasn't going to make it public because it could get them in trouble, yet you were throwing a tantrum that you wanted to hear the numbers from me despite you knowing it yourself also. If you were unbiased, you would have confirmed the big margins on TOTL headphones.

Also I told you back then that you should stop replying to me. So could you stop doing it for the billionth time? I won't reply anyway.

I’m visiting Manley real soon. Would you mind commenting on your chinook?

Whatever happened to the Manley headphone amp? It looks like it has pretty good specs and features. Might have made a nice companion to the utopia.
