I'm not sure about the compensation curve he used on the graph, but he did take the measurements himself so I assume he has the raw measurements. I hope Mitch has a treble extension filter for the 2022 Utopias. On other headphones he typically does a bass extension and treble extension filter, and then a filter with both of them combined (and of course a neutral filter). I think the 2022s could have a bit better treble. If Mitch's filters can fix that small issue, the 2022s will be even better in my opinion.

These definitely look like a used pair. Though the marks on the carbon fiber headband are normal, it’s a composite of recycled carbon fiber. Also the clamp force on the 2022 seem looser than original Utopia.

On the leather areas you have circled, would you mind explaining what you are seeing?

The folds on the leather and the slightly discolored parts seemed to be signs of usage from my point of view.

I received my Utopia 2022 on July 25th from Adorama and noticed that the package was unsealed. Moreover, I found some flaws, scratches, and signs of usage (possibly) on the headphones. I didn't pay attention to the clamp force because I don't own other headphones. If anyone else has encountered the same issue, please post here for further notice or action.

This appears to be at least the second pair Adorama shipped that was “open box.” The Head-Fi member @quasimoto stated the pair he received from Adorama was also unsealed and possibly stretched out. I would return them given the condition.

Got it, was hard to make out the folds and discoloration from the pic. Though my eyes could be tired too. Hope you can return this set, this is unfortunate since they did not advertise it as open box or b-stock.

Given the “no warranty“ warning from Focal in response to the Adorama sale, I would return the pair as well. Work with your dealer on a price that you can accept or don’t buy at all.

also, just because Focal deleted their original authenticated Reddit post doesn’t mean anything. They can find any reason to reject your warranty claim and make you pay for any repair.

Got mine from Adorama today and they were completely brand new. All the boxes and containers were sealed as well as the headphones were in mint condition. Guess I got lucky.

have u tried the parametric eq that was posted here a while back? someone came up with a nice variant of the oratory one. I'm using it and it sounds great.

I haven’t. I need to check it out. I’ll look into it tomorrow. If it fixes the slight treble/perceived resolution issue, I’m going to be a happy listener.

My adorama order was also open box / likely pre-owned. I called customer service on Thursday and they asked for asked for photos, then cited 2 business days to figure out how to respond lol. Suggest you do the same.

if I were you I would confirm Adorama is actually an AD, if not I would return the cans. Not worth it to buy Utopia without warranty IMO
