Great Review Sajid. I’ve been subscribed to your channel for a while and really appreciate your insight.

I totally agree with your assessment for the Radiance as I’ve also owned the Clear and Atticus and performed the same comparison as you.

I don’t really have any negative feedback. I really appreciate your no nonsense approach. Most reviewers are trying to add B-Roll and production value and although I appreciate that, a lot of the time it extends the video far longer for no real added value.

The one thing I’d love for you to add is your test track playlist and gear used to find your results so I can better understand how you’re coming to your conclusions.
Thank you. Very helpful feedback.

I did a video review on the Radiance on my new YouTube channel as well:

Enjoy!

An "open-box" pair arrived today that is pretty obviously brand-new. There is a very significant imbalance in the bass region between 60hz and 170hz. It's way off to the right in that area, sounding mono below and above. I swapped the L & R pads between each other to make sure it's not a pad problem, and got the same results both ways. Extremely disappointed as I don't know if headphones.com will help me rectify it since their open-box deals are final sale. Going through Focal warranty on a brand new pair of headphones is going to suck.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Hope it works out for you 👍.

The Bentleys, are warm, smooth, round, with full bass.
Much more like a ZMF type of fullness, but no treble zing.
If you like a warm full sound, and not a airy treble analytical sound, then the Bentley's are the answer.
And they are really pretty.
How do you like them with rock and metal? Definitely sounds like my cup of tea.

Well, just like a ZMF or an Audeze, they are going to make everything sound more full and rich...thick.
Where this becomes an issue is when the music is already recorded full and rich and then you get muddy sound because you just have too much low mid and upper bass going on that is overpowering the high FQ and upper mids.
The way you deal with that is EQ out the lower FR, or put on thinner pads which is doing the same thing..
See, the farther your ears are away from the speaker, (thicker pads) the more the bass has a chance to play a larger role, and the closer your ears are to the speaker, the more the Treble and upper mids stand out.

Its sort of the Issue with the Empyrean. The Empyrean is a warm full sweet thick FR because the Pads are very deep. So, if you play music that is already all of this, it sounds like mud with the Empyrean, whereas the Elite has thinner pads that change the FR and now the Empyrean, (that is the Elite with new pads), has become the Noire vs the Aeon 2C. Its the same gear, but the pad change in both cases turns down the bass and low end, which allows the upper mids and treble to stand out.

Metal music, is EQ'd with more of a V shape frequency response when its Mastered, ....so, Metal music combined with a warm sounding headphone like a Audeze or /ZMF or the Focal Radiance, can sound killer.

Open box or not, a product that doesn't work as intended should be subject to warranty, so I'd ask at your place of purchase and they should help :L3000:

Indeed. And open box or not, the consumer right to return is still in place because buying it blindly.

Luckily these days returns and associated logistics are not a problem. As customers we live in very convenient times.

Just joined the club! I personally don't like Focal headphones, I had the Utopia, Stellia and Clear in the past and they were the only headhones I put back into the box after 10 minutes of listening. The radiance is really different. Quite exciting, mild v-shaped sound and less warm than what I expected from reading all the comments. I am really enjoying these.

That's one awesome shot right there. Black&white with just one warm color works relly well, kudos!
