Focal Elear - Impressions Thread

How about a $50 or less cable for those who don't believe in the benefits of magic cables?

IMHO, Focal should have included a second, more portable cable - or offered one as an optional accessory.  Or maybe this was a gift to their dealers, giving them an opportunity to sell more $350 cables to their customers.

I'm not quite sold on cable magic either but you can get one made by Liquid Inertia on eBay for about $150 http://www.ebay.com/usr/liquid-inertia?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2754
I had one made for my PM-2 and I'm pretty happy with it. Not sure if you'll find one much cheaper than that though. Let me know if you do because I'm going to need one too!

With the mark up some of these people making cables are putting on their cables ....it's not easy to find lower cost cable products anymore. I've found cables that are great bang for the buck and yet sometimes still high priced. I've seen cables with zero technology selling for stupid money too. So I understand your lack belief. Although if you get to LA, bring your new cans and I'll give you the wire tour. You'll definitely hear differences. If after that tour of you can't tell enough difference to make it worth it than you'll at least know it's not too important for you. I'll even show you who is selling VooDoo wire with your ears as the Judge & Jury. I'll give you no input but you'll immediately know.

What's wrong with the factory cable other than it's ridiculous length?

It's quite heavy.

I wouldn't mind it so much if there was another lighter/shorter cable included. Preferably balanced as that's what a lot of people are wanting to use the Elears with.

I'd recommend Impact Audio Cables for a good quality, very reasonable priced cables. You might have to wait a few weeks, but it's worth it. https://www.etsy.com/shop/ImpactAudioCables

Once we know some good plug options for the headphone ends of the cable, it'll be easy enough to make our own cables.  I'll probably take the shortcut of buying some other brand's factory cable and swapping the headphone plugs.  The cost would be around $10 for the two plugs, and $25 for the cable.  Not too bad, though I'm getting lazy and willing to pay extra to save me the hour of labor - but not $300 extra.

Oh, I wish Focal made a nice portable cable with the proper plugs to interface with the detent in the jack on the headphones, and save people some work (or excessive costs).  I'd happily pay $50-100 for an official Focal cable.

That would be awesome! Although I'm not sure when I will ever be in LA again :/ I definitely need a tour because just looking at the prices of some cables is enough to make me never want to go down that path. Some cost as much as the headphones themselves!

based on the measurements posted by Tyll on innerfidelity, the viablue 3.5mm small you carry should fit as well :)

(iirc the socket + dimple is approx 9.2mm, or 9.5mm minus dimple)
