Focal Clear headphones

My Focal Clear OG, with a new headband installed by Focal USA/Canada (yes, it's black leather on the top, with the original color Alcantara on the bottom), Dekoni Fenestrated Sheepskin pads, the Capra strap, and the GUcraftsman silver balanced cable (on a Woo Audio stand). I am trying out these Dekoni pads and their Elite Velour pads (per Resolve's comparison test). And also playing around with the various EQ settings available in Roon and Morphit, and crossfeed settings...

I was also running my Focal Clear OG yesterday, listening to Tool's 10,000 days album and I also have the capra strap, the silver cable from GUcraftsman but in 4.4mm and I also have the elite velour pads from dekoni, I ended up changing them back to the original pads, the elite velour's definitively add a little bit more warm to the sound and they do deal with some of the inconsistencies in the high mids and treble on the OG, but they over do it imho, once EQ, the original pads have a little bit more clarity in the mids that you lose with the velour pads but you don't get the shoutiness on the high mids and occasional peaks that you get with the original pads with no EQ, it's a really smooth experience, in regards to comfort, I generally find them to be about the same, that is, if you feel that the clear is kind of clampy on your head, it's still going to be kind of clampy with the velour pads.

My chain yesterday was the Cyan 2 - TA-84 OTL Tube amp - iHA-8 on pre-amp mode, it sounded wonderful, it's not the most resolving headphone that I have in my collection but it's one of the most enjoyable listening experiences you can have, really balance and smooth.

What was the process like for getting the headband replaced?

What was the process like for getting the headband replaced?
Contact Focal customer service via email. They'll send you instructions about price, shipping, etc. It's not cheap, but the Alcantara on the headband was discolored and worn-looking. You'll have to ship it to Focal in upstate NY, and they send it to their repair place in Canada; you get an invoice to pay online, and then they repair it and ship it back to the owner. I did this before the tariff was put in place, so I don't know what that is going to do to the price. The turn-around once they got the headphones in the repair queue was only a couple of days. Figure about 2 weeks maximum. Send it to them in the carrying case, well-packed and protected - and insured.

You can order the part from them, or have a willing dealer do the work, but I figured it was better to have Focal do the whole thing.

The only problem I had was FedEx, which has to be the worst shipper of all. You have to sign for delivery, and the idiot driver didn't try to deliver it; he took a picture of my house and didn't leave a call tag, claiming I was not available, although I was home and saw him stop and then leave. He didn't bother to get out of his truck. Of course, complaining to FedEx or trying to arrange for redelivery, is IMPOSSIBLE. Even worse in this case because it's shipped from Canada and the two divisions of FedEx don't talk with each other to help any customer. It did show up the next business day, and thankfully my wife was home to sign for it.

I purchased my first pair of Focal headphones a few weeks ago.
And man, I gotta say, the Clear OG is one of the funner headphones I've listened to.
I too have it paired with the Nitsch DSHA-3FN and its just ........a "chef's kiss".

Maybe Dekoni would have something?

Yes, they are crazy expensive. This is why i got me the ones from the picture.
Fitted like they were originaly made for Clear. Sound was bit more full. Switching back to the originals, sound became hm, lighter?
Look at the Dekoni or on Ebay, for third party ones.
Or just switch the headphones, to Denon AH D9200, this is what i did:darthsmile:

Oem pads are too expensive. Around 200€ just for pads is ridiculous.

I was looking at Dekoni but i am not sure which ones would be as close to oem ones.
And I thought they were a bit expensive here in the US. Yikes, that's much more.

Okay so I just heard a loud static pop while using my Clear OG. It only happened for a split second but it scared the crap out of me. Now my Clear OG sound a bit muffled. Should I be worried? I have them running off a JDS Labs Element III boosted and playing music from my MacBook Pro.

So glad I didnt sell my Clear OG. I forgot how wonderful sounding it is. Love its warm neutral signature. Acoustic guitars sound so divine. Nitsch Pietus Maximus is a perfect pairing amp.

It's been a while since I've listened to the combo, and yes Clear OG/Pietus Maximus is an amazingly great combination! It's a really high value proposition also, the sound quality/$ spent is top notch. Highly recommended.

How do these two amps compare when driving Clear?
To my ears: Nitsch DSHA-3FN vs MK-433 has a closer to 'vantablack' background, somewhat greater dynamic range. Bass 'extends' slightly deeper via 3FN. Neither is afflicted with solid-state nasties: etch, glare, shallow soundfield .... 🤷🏻‍♂️
