flinkenick's 17 Flagship IEM Shootout Thread (and general high-end portable audio discussion)
Havenāt bought Sony since The Sony Store closed here years ago. Maybe itās time.
I don't have much experience with modern Sony DAPs outside the ZX-507 and I loved the SQ of it, but the screen was tiny and the battery life was awful.
A new flagship (possibly Android) Sony DAP gets me excited, I loved their Mini-Disc players and I still have mine around somewhere.
With all that said, I hope I'm not setting myself up for disappointment with this announcement

Looking atInteresting word choice there
If Sony comes up with anything like how 1Z/1A dominated the pre-Android DAPs, it will be most exciting. Agree on the ZX-507: the SQ was good, whilst not quite close to the 1Z; but battery life made me give up on it.I don't have much experience with modern Sony DAPs outside the ZX-507 and I loved the SQ of it, but the screen was tiny and the battery life was awful.

Yeah, the battery life was the dealbreaker for me too. But, amazing sounding DAP for its priceLooking at

Well, don't take the plunge on the N8ii until you see what Sony has...Good thing I didn't order the M9... yet...

The portability factor on that thing is so good too, I wouldn't mind if they made it a bit larger for a bigger battery.

I have nothing meaningful to add to the Sony DAP hype, but hereās some photographic evidence that I probably need some sort of intervention. Seriously, if they didnāt name their flagship IEMs after my son, I could comfortably not be so trigger happy.
Sound: same house sound as the Mason FS, but as advertised itās got a slight improvement in the bass texture due to the new BCD. Mid-bass has a bit more physicality to it, as do vocals with a slight injection of air up top. Very similar though; kind of a choose red or blue type situation

P.S. with the frequency in which UM releases new IEMs, I joked that this should be called the MaaSon. I would prefer āMason as a Serviceā so that I can just always own the latest and greatest

I have none left!Damn it have mine as well
Typical Sony to let everyone else play their hand, then pull out a full house. Good times.

Called it! Was talking to the guys at Tw6 and we were guessing who would be the first to buy the Red Halo. I told them you wouldn't be able to resist it because of your son.
