I've always been a IEM person (still enjoying my triplefi 10) and now I'm deciding on purchasing a open full size cans.
 
I'm mostly enjoying listing to speed metal, hard rock, jrock, jpop and some electronic music. 
My current budget is $500
 
I've been hearing outstanding reviews on the following headphones.
Sennheiser HD650, HD500, Denon D2000, and AKG K701. 
 
This would only be for home use only and lastly I own a good soundcard and awaiting for an amp. Thanks!

I would cross the HD 500 from your list, unless you meant the 600. It doesn't compare to the others you've listed. What soundcard do you have and what amp are you looking to get?

I have the HD600s and find them to be very neutral and excellent all-arounders.  They don't have any glaring weaknesses.  They may not be the best at everything, but they're bad at nothing.

GO HD650, it will do well on metal/rock and electronic music. Stay away from the AKG K701, it's not very exciting at all.

Out of your genre list, I would say D2000 first, HD600 second. Depends on whether you want open or closed, more or less treble energy.

HD600 is the best "all around-er" on your list, and would be my recommendation.
 
Beyer 990 would also be a possibility for the genres you listed.

[size=10.0pt]You can save yourself a significant amount of money by opting for something with a little less resolving power and more excitement. The top of my list has got to be the Grado SR80i (which may have some comfort issues) or one of the Sennheiser HD 500 series.[/size]

From your music preferences, i can say that K701 is not for you plus it's really need a suitable amp, something tuned for k701.
haven't audited d2000, no comments.
For HD600,i think it's doesn't have enough bass for the genre you mentioned.
For a budget of $500, I would say get a pair of used HD650 (if you like to do so), and Zu mobius cable. Trust me ,recable your HD650 does make a HUGE difference!

I'd say stock HD600s plus a Headroom Total BitHead Amp is a sweet spot. Then you can upgrade if you like what you hear.
