Final Thoughts: Sony MDR-XB1000 vs. MDR-XB700 *** Pictures ***

I doubt it will sell for less than $200 in the U.S.  IMO, the build quality is worth more than $200 retail.  I imagine it will retail for $299 with the street price of $229, but may have to wait a long time before dealers drop the retail pricing.  I for one can't wait that long so I got it from Japan, but I paid a lot more.

I'm willing to pay up for them. They'd be fun to rock your head every now and then whether you you better cans or not.

Yea I'm guessing they're going to cost around $200-$300 too. And has anyone noticed in the Chase credit card commercial where the people hand the dude money, the guy near the end appears to be wearing XB 700's?? I only caught a quick glimpse but it really was them!!

All I'm doing is quoting Wired.com, who quoted the expected MSRP.  I don't know if there's really any legitimate reason they are going to be $200-300 in the states, but if you look at the progression of pricing, you'll see the XB series is very incremental.  On Sonystyle.com, the XB-700 costs $130.  It would make sense that Sony would charge you a bit over $200 for the next step, since the prices climb from $50 for the 300s, $80 for the 500s, to $130 for the 700s; but remember, you can buy brand new Sony XB700s for less than $80 from many other retailers, so it would be logical that some retailers would sell the 1000s at a noticeable discount from the MSRP.

I got it on eBay through a Japan seller. Something "bicycle" in the name. Free 2 Days shipping to San Fran.

Website feels particularly Web 1.5.  Creepy/cheesy mascot.  No real feedback from third party websites; if you google search ""accessory jack" reviews", nothing really pops out.

The kicker for me was that they HAD to reassure the buyer it wasn't fake a couple times in the site: on the front page, and in the FAQ.

All together it just felt like a bad choice.  I know better now, but I was guarded about making a $250 purchase from someone I don't know.

That is why I don't believe they will be over $200 in the states.

If they aren't over $200 I will buy some day one if for nothing else than the novelty of having a CD on the side of my head.

You could put some CD's on the side of your head for a lot cheaper than $200.

But then I'd hear all the mean things people would say about me. If I have these SONY CDs, I can only see the mean gestures, such as pointing and laughing.

Problem solved.
