Give the XB1000 good power and source, it will come alive.  Your Army friends will be jealous. Fo sho!

Which brings me back to my original question, which I now realize is kind of dumb. What power source did you use? Did you run it straight from a DAC or through any amp? I just wanna know, since I have to wait long times to get anything out here, if I should invest in a higher power amp now or just run things from my MacBook Pro > USB FiiO E7 > Phones.

Unrelated, speaking of Army HiFi... can't wait for my 5.5G 80GB iPod to come.  Only 125 bucks brand new!

I saw a pair going for $259 from Accessory Jack.

I used a Lehmann Audio Black Cube Linear for this comparison. However, I like the sound from my Bellari HA540 tube amp a bit more on the XB1000.

Saw them, but I didn't trust them enough and hadn't found any evidence they shipped to APO.  TBQH I'm not going to need the extra $100 really soon, not to say that I'm HAPPY spending more.

According to the Japanese post office, they're in the Fukui prefecture ATM.

Accessory Jack has a strong reputation but I'm not sure about APO either. You could email them. I'd wait for the 50-66% reduced price tho :p

Those Sony Flat cables are ridiculously sexy. Anyway, I kind of just want a pair of XB 1000s for the novelty they bring. I mean...LOOK HOW HUGE THEY ARE. It's just crazy.

I've always been more of a fan of coils or soft rubber cords.  Coils for reach, and prevent nasty YANKS when something falls on it or trips over it.  Soft rubber, for ease of storage, I haven't seen a cord as fine as the Radio Shack cord I found.  It stretches 15 feet before starting to over-extend, is light enough not to pull on one-sided entry plugs, is shielded and covered in soft rubber, so that it doesn't look or feel cheap and flashy but sturdy and utilitarian.

Plastic cords ALWAYS bug me because they never just sag into a nice shape.  They just always keep their "This is how I was packaged... DEAL WITH IT," shape.

If I had a choice, and loads of funds I'd recable all my headphones with flat cables. They're awesome, easier to manage, and sleek.

Haven't seen these flat cables yet.  I'm not sure how stiff they are.

ARGH THESE CANS ARE NEVER GONNA GET HERE AT THIS RATE.

Same here, I don't mind the wait but I'm not paying over $200 for them.
