My particular unit had shut down to the point where it wouldn't even power up at all, so I had to send it in to FIIO directly. During that time, the 1.06 came out and was factory installed by FIIO before sending it back to me in a repaired, boot-able state. It has always displayed the "cold boot issue" I had explained to you in my last post before the factory had it and ever since then. I am not blaming anything on anyone here, it's just that the device is buggy, as far as all of the users can tell, so I would rather get a new firmware. The time I had spent without the device the last time I had to send it to FIIO was over a month. I am hoping that a new firmware will fix the problem, and if it continues, I will then consider sending it back in to FIIO again. Thank you for your consideration in the matter.

EDIT: I tried to multi quote this response to my original post. The quote didn't show up. See post #5088
Dear friend,

You have sent the X7MKII back to us in China for check? You may try to burn the firmware for the X7MKII to see if it helps: http://fiio.me/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=41890&extra=

Best regards

So now I could definitely and confidently confirm that player changed it sound signature after I upgraded from 1.0.4 to 1.0.6 firmware.
In 1.0.6 sound is brighter - and it is totally unacceptable for me. I just have a pain in my ears from this sound. It is too piercing for me.
I have tried to fix it with EQ - but it did not helped (overall quality was not good).
So I have found 2 methods - how to make old sound (preferable to me) back.
It is bad that if I will stick with 1.0.4 firmware I will be not able to get fixes for bugs, but it is anyway much better for me than have brighter sound signature.
Also if I will rely on some person from internet who applied his fix on top of Fiio firmware - I will be not able to be sure that he will not hacked my device in some way (as he is not official developer from Fiio company).

I want to share my experience on how to bring back old sound in case if you liked it more. In case if some other forum readers have similar issues with brighter sound signature:

Fix Fiio X7 mark 2 too bright sound signature guide (after upgrading from 1.0.4 firmware):

1st way - downgrade player to 1.0.4 firmware:
1) Download 1.0.3 firmware loader http://fiio-firmware.fiio.net/X7MKII Firmware Upgrade Tool with FW1.0.3.zip
2) Follow instructions from this Fiio page to install 1.0.3 firmware to your device http://fiio.net:8000/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=41890
3) Upgrade device with over the air update from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4
Attention - your data inside player storage will be deleted - so make sure you copied all your music to flash card!

2nd way
- use some custom firmware that fixes the issue in 1.0.6:
1) Download and install modded firmware that fixes issue with bright signature
Example of such firmware and instructions how to install it could be found here: http://www.fidelizer-audio.com/fiio...6-released-with-bright-sound-signature-fixed/

@FiiO
Is there a plans to restore old sound signature (like it was in 1.0.4) in new 1.0.7 firmware?
Or in case if this is not possible: I think the best way to satisfy both kinds of users (users who like brighter sound and users who like warm sound) is to release 2 variations of the same firmware.
One with brighter sound. And second with more warm sound. So in this way I will have both - fixed bugs and warm signature that I bought from store and liked.

FYI @gazzington
Dear friend,
Actually we didn't do much in the sound quality in different firmware update.
We will try to add a +/12dB dynamic EQ in our FiiO Music on X7MKII in later update.

Best regards

Fiio wont even agreed with us that anything has been changed or is different. I had a talk with their engineers a while back and they where certain that nothing about it's sound has been changed even though I hear differently. As far as Fiio is concerned it sounds just as great as once we bought them, so fixing it back to how it was is a defined no.

I had been told that the new firmware 1.06 had come out while my unit had been in FIIO's hands, and that you put the 1.06 on the device. The device states that 1.06 is the one on the device now. I tried without success to use this tool to flash the 1.07 that was going around these forums without success. I tried multiple times.

Strange the flash tool should always work, it even worked after the beta version completely messed everything up, beyond recovery. Try it with firmware 1.0.0 first and then try the 1.0.7 japan version

Things are definitely changed in 1.0.6 compared to 1.0.4. I do not say that sound is bad - I'm saying that it is brighter. And brighter sound is totally not in my taste...
But as I said before - I perfectly reverted to 1.0.4 and now it sounds the way I like it.

Agreed, saying it sounds worse is a overstatement, it just sounds different. And totally not to my taste. I really hope the new firmware has the sound back to normal. The beta was pretty awesome for 4 days and then it totally died on me, I didn't like the sound of it though, but ui was amazing and most issues seemed fixed, well until it died.

It is great that development is going forward!
Maybe some time later in a custom modification signature will be fixed and we could use it. (something like this but for newer firmware: http://www.fidelizer-audio.com/fiio...6-released-with-bright-sound-signature-fixed/)
Or maybe @FiiO could provide to us some other workaround to make sound similar to 1.0.4 - (like some specific settings in EQ or download and apply some specific patch from Fiio)...

I didn't like what fidelizer did to the sound and how it achieves what it claims to do. You can try Chinese version of 1.0.6. it also sounds different.

I have not tried Chinese version (and do not want to do it). But if sound signature depends on language/country - then it is definitely a bug that should be fixed...
