They sound fine. I can listen to the X7 mk ii with the stock AM3A amp with the volume set around 90 to 100 out of 120 with gain set to high(no clipping/distortion, but getting loud enough to hurt). In comparison, IEMs such as the CA Vega or Fender FXA-7 I can turn things up to between 65 - 70 out of 120 with high gain set before it gets painful/too loud. The headphones EQ well, so you can more or less get whatever sound you want out them.

The extra power couldn't hurt, and you'd be able to power all types of headphones as a bonus? The downside to using the AM5 would be that your battery life would take a hit (the AM5 uses more power than the AM3A).

Got my X7 mk2 today and I’m very happy!
The sound (AM3A) seems to be neutral to slightly lean, without being harsh in any way. Just nice and airy, clean with great resolution and a satisfying bite in the upoer mids that often can lack in the head/earphones I use (Focal Elear and Oriveti New Primacy). The X7 drives the Oriveti at low-gain around 60/120, and Elear in high-gain at maybe 80/120.

The sound still benefits from using the X7 as just a transport to my Chord Hugo, but I believe the X7 alone can compete with pure dac/amps in their price range.

Super happy with the build, design, UI is decently smooth and quick. Just one question though:
Is there any way to get a system-wide EQ to use when streaming tidal?

Ok thank you! What is the set up are you using for Aeon? I am not sure if this would be an appropriate question for this thread but thank you anyway.

Once in a while I have the Aeon plugged directly into the X7mkII, but most of the time it's PC--->RHA dac/amp 1 with treble set to 0, bass set to +6--->Aeon.

@FiiO I’ve discovered the cause of the issue. Apparently whilst playing DSD format media it won’t allow either the equalizer nor Viper Effects to do its thing. I don’t know if this is intentional, if it is, may I ask why? Secondarily where is it stated that the device doesn’t support this?

Dear friend,

It is native DSD encoded when the X7MKII plays DSD music which go through the unique chip. So the Viper effects is disabled when playing the DSD files.

Sorry it’s taken me a while, but I’ve just sent your support address an email with a playlist attached. I’m really hoping you can fix the issue where playlists on the Fiio Music app do not show in the order they were curated. This is a real pain as I create playlists for all the music I want on my player. To have everything then show in track order is a real pain. Please reach out to me for any other info you need. I’m sure this would be a real simple fix and I and others would appreciate it.

Pls suggest .... if I use 3rd party apps like Hiby to stream music from my NAS will there be any degradation of music quality when played on 3rd party apps ?

Just to add I have 96 and 192khz flax and dsd files along with normal CD quality files to stream

Most third-party apps are affected by Android's SRC.
When playback PCM, Neutron can avoid the Android SRC.
I confirmed by playback that streaming music from MinimServer on Mac to Neutron.
When X7 mkII is set to High Performance Mode, Neutron can playback up to 32bit/384kHz without down-convert.
I still don't know third-party apps that can play DSD natively.
Also, I sent an e-mail to @FiiO one month ago to ask him how to play DSD natively on third-party App, but I have not yet replied to my question.

I'm wondering why @FiiO does not disclose technical information for the developer of third-party App?

Hi All, do you guys play your network files from synology nas over fiio music? I'm trying to play flac files from synology nas DS416play, it plays fine but it won't show total time and it won't fast forward or rewind, when i try to forward the song it jumps to another song...
