Instead of dual SD card support, why not have one regular slot and one for micro-SD, à la Calyx M?

You can always use a SD to micro-SD adapter card to accomplish the same thing...

I know, but mSATA isn't going anywhere for a couple of years. (I can be wrong, but that's how it looks now at the moment).

M.2 devices are just starting to appear in the market as is part of SATA 3.2 specification.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest - I still hope the X7 will use mSATA.
 
It will take 2-4 years for M.2 to be widely adopted by the industry, and production to ramp-up, anyway.

mSata solid state drive can be a solution. It can go up to 500GB and it's proven that 500GB mSata SSD works well on iPods with 850mah battery.
mSata solid state drives are faster and lighter. The price is about 200 dollars for 500GB. 
It's energy consumption isn't so high. It can play 10 hours of music with 850mah battery. I really wish Fiio guys use this as data storage.

Some people have been selling mSata SSD ipod since long time ago. I believe mSata SSD is going to be a great solution. 
This truly works. It's stable and cheap.

AFAIK, 1TB is the current mSATA limit. That's why mSATA could potentially be a game-changer (and, at any given capacity 500gb or less, mSATA would be a bit cheaper than 2 x SD cards of equivalent capacity, of course):

mSATA is a no-brainer at this point in time - personally, I suspect that we may see it first in a DAP from A&K.   I dislike A&K as a company, but they chase the new features and I anticipate them bringing it to market very, very soon. Maybe in a $1,000,000 gold-plated AK480, but probably in a $5,000 AK480 or similar.
 
James would be foolish (IMO) to dismiss mSATA as a viable feature on the X7, particularly as it would allow him to distinguish the X7 from much of the current DAP competition in the marketplace.

Good point, and I didn't know about the difference in current drain with the 1TB, so thanks for letting me know.
 
But even so, it's only a matter of time before the 1TB capacity is made more efficient and cheaper, and, let's face it, 500gb is pretty sweet for the timebeing

I don't think Fiio needs to include a mSATA drive. It would be nice that the X7 includes some internal memory, dual mSD or a single SD and a user accesible mSATA. That would be awesome! Lots of options
