Awesome, stupid me ;-)

Cant wait to see it. Hope it will be robust like canon cameras - best texture for a dap possible, rough magnesium.

I wish the screen is OLED (no need for lcd, its not a phone) - or at least AMOLED (could be a more expensive option too).

Anything is known about software? Will be there plain lists support? Playing entire directories, add directory to playlist, etc.? Something like in rockbox. Scan on demand option?

He's showing us what it's NOT going to look like.

What he's not showing us is how much better it's going to look and function.

I get the feeling (correct me if I'm wrong, James) that Fiio is now moving towards a finished product (that won't be finished by canjam) and our input is no longer needed.  Design, functions, battery, etc., have been decided on and now it's testing time.

BTW, if it looks better than the renderings, is more user-friendly than the renderings, and it sounds as good as I hope it will, I'm buying one.

Thanks for checking in on these threads, and for keeping us abreast of what you are doing.

Was there any mention of a bass boost function?

to the best of my knowledge Sony's ClearBass technology (which is fantastic and doesn't add any distortion even at higher volume levels) is the only bass boost built in to any current players on the market (if i am mistaken about this and there are other brands who offer bass boost please let me know), its a nice option to have , and naturally, can be set to off or 0 if you don't want to use it.

I suppose for DAPs without it, it's possible to add an amp/dac with a bass boost and eq included (i.e. the FiiO E17 Alpen) but for portability its preferable to have the option natively included in the DAP as it's lighter and less bulky.

without bass boost this dap would be obsolete

daps should at least have bass boost or an eq, if not included believe me fiio lots of people will haunt you for not having it, as audiophile is still by all means not a representative to what most people like to hear, people like to add bass boost and play with treble and almost everyone gets tired and bored of flat sounding neutral players, so don't fall for the trap that some audopphiles ask you to get them a neutral flat player as you will lose a big base of your customers if you do that. Fiio success is because it offers coloured sound and is dare enough when it adds bass boost it boosts not like bass boost in other player or amps.

Fiio stay on your roots and provide us with a musical rich sound signature and ignore the few that keep asking for neutral, flat sound signatures.

Peace off

If X7 turns out to be flat/netral (which in my opinion any source should be). Change your phone to something musical to get the SQ you want. A colored DAP will be picky and difficult to pair with a lot of headphones. I don't think Fiio will leave X7 without an EQ. Harware based tone-shaping control will make X7 complicated, more expensive and takes up valuable space for something else which is more important for a DAP.

At 699$ Fiio is slowly becoming expesive. Does all chinese brand trying this way? They bwgine with low price quality product and gain popularity and then slowly raising price to the level of western company. Considering it is developed and manufacture in China it is becoming expensive now. It is like the same move (strategi) as the mobile company. No doubt x7 is going to be good dap performance wise.

If the headfi community is providing helpful opinion for the making of the excellence dap X7, Fiio is saving alot of money in developing stage, shouldn't it bee a bit cheaper

they are not becoming more expensive theyre just releasing a 100$ DAP

.
they will just offer a wider range of products. it makes much more sense from a marketing point of view, to make something different and touch new customers, instead of trying to make a new X3 every 6months. only apple and call of duty can sell the same thing again and again and get away with it ^_^.

Too expensive?  The X7 is barely more than an iBasso DX90.  It is one-third the cost of an A&K240 or a Chord Hugo or other high-end devices.  Hardly too expensive.  My X1 cost $100.  My X5 cost about $350.  What's wrong with adding a higher-end device to round out the brand?  If you don't want a high-end player, buy an X1.  Or an iPod Nano for $170.

2, X7 will has different amp module so the output power is decided by the amp module. we will design a high output power module , output power may up to 500 or 700 mW at 32ohms.

Whoa - awesome :-)

I'm a pretty new user here but I have been lurking for a long while.
I resent the idea that FiiO shouldn't add Wifi because "then it wouldn't be a hifi player".
I currently use a DX90 and listen to lossless files, but sometimes I want to listen to music on spotify because I don't have the files.
Not everyone downloads every song, I use Spotify when I get a nostalgia trip and decide to listen to old music that I just want to listen once or twice and be done with.
Having it on one device would be great!

You can have your Hifi player, and more.
More options are always great.
If you won't use the function then great, it won't directly affect your enjoyment of the product anyway.

As long as all the fancy features (like wifi, bluetooth and any others) does not hinder SQ I don't mind X7 having them.

Problem is implementing additional featrures which may have little or no impact on SQ occupies board space. Which would make the DAP larger, more expensive and kind of redundant really.

In my opinion the USB DAC function should be the only advance feature a DAP needs which you can connect to a smartphone or PC for music streaming.

You always carry a smartphone anyway. Why would you need 2 devices that have redundant functions. Are we asking Fiio to make  a high-end DAP or just another android device?

Yeah, I see what you mean, but isn't it better if they can make a AK240 equal at a price of 400-500$ ? Do you have any idea how much 700$ is? And after all import tax and shipping cost.
What is going to bee next when they make X9  and X11? pricing at 1200$ and 2200$ and compare to a Ayre dac/amp or Audio Note. Just because they are producing good stuff doesn't meant they have to put a high price on it. I see X7 as more like a replacement for thier X5 with betterspec/performace with same price, just like when you buy a Sony mobilephone Z2 last year at the price 800$, and you are buying Z3 this year, did you pay 1600$ just because Z3 are better than Z2. Or compare Z1 to Z2.

Fiio is sooner or later becoming just like mobile manufacture OnePlus One,Oppo, Huewei, Xiaomi. They beging with low price high-end phones with same spec as the top Samsung, Sony,HTC phones at a price of one-third as you say. After few years establishing thier companys poplularity, they will sure raise the price of thier product to 800-900$ for a phone. No doubt about that.

Don't forget all those chinese audio company are developing and manufacturing thier product in CHINA!!!!!!!!!!! With much lower salery for the employees.
