If you're looking for an incredibly accurate, inexpensive set of cans, I can't recommend the M40X enough

I like the M40X (although my daughter has absconded them from me). Not the most portable and the cables are long, but yes the sound signature is pretty solid for sure.

Agreed about the cables. Luckily Fiio makes a shorter replacement cable

Sorry mate I haven't heard the M50X, only the M50. The M40X is supposed to be more clear sounding and less bass heavy than the original M50 which going by memory I agree with. Not sure if the M50X is much different. For the price the M40X is quite nice, but it isn't going to best a PM3 or DT 880.

I can't speak about the DT880, but the M40X is more accurate than the DT770 Pro 32-Ohm

I think the M40X should sound okay out of the AM1 module. I have read that the M40X is apparently less bassy and more neutral so that to me would make it better than the M50X haha.
