Tried the TIDAL today. Awesome, but I hear a noise in my westone and mx980 sennheiser. No noise on hd650. I found a post from FiiO http://www.head-fi.org/t/713735/fiio-x7-dxd-dsd-384k-64b-ess9018-android-amp-module-design-call-for-3rd-party-amp-module-developers/8130#post_12222391

So if TIDAL on iPhone works without any noise by wifi, but I hear it on X7, FiiO said that it is normal and not cover by warranty?

P.S. Very interesting fact with MX980: If I set a volume to 100% (on the cable) I hear the noise from wifi. But if I decrease volume to ~50% and increase volume level on X7 to the same level = I can not hear a noise. So it is very easy to fix by FiiO - just increase output impedance of amplifier. Right?

upd: tried to add 70 ohm(omg) load to my westone um3x and noise almost disappeared

Increasing impedance between the amplifier and the headphones can solve many noise problems but is considered a bad thing in other respects (decreased damping factor alter frequency response of most balanced armature earphones and some full-size headphones). Glad you've found a fix for yourself but it is something FiiO can hardly apply to their player.

You are right. Sure I do not use this fix. It was just an experiment. There is should be another hardware fix. Because I can not hear any noise with an iPhone and the same Westone UM3x.

  AM3  = >540mW(32Ω/1kHz)  >70mW(300Ω/1kHz)
AM5 = >500 mW(32Ω/1 kHz)  >55mW(300Ω/1kHz)

AM5 has more power on 16 Ω but AM3 reaches more power from 32Ω onwards AM3 it is then!

@FiiO  There's something that caught my attention, it is specified that current is >160 mA(For reference). But Power = I * V ,  and the peak voltage of AM5 is the same as in AM3, wouldn't current be higher on the AM3?

Nice Specs on Channel Separation >110 dB(32Ω/1 kHz)

"AM3  = >540mW(32Ω/1kHz)  >70mW(300Ω/1kHz) "  is the value for the balanced output. And the output power value for the normal 3.5mm output is ">190mW(32Ω/1kHz)  >25mW(300Ω/1kHz) "
The output current is actually related to the specification of the chips, which is different on the AM3 and AM5.

  Which amp would you guys recommend/personnaly choose when using B&W P7 and listening to all kind of music, Little focus on music like Muse, Queen, Gabriel.

Thx

Stefan

22 ohms, 111 dB sensitivity - personally I'd go with AM2.  The P7 are pretty easy to drive, and the AM2 is a good compromise between power output and battery life.

Hi

Just ordered my X7. I'm using a FiiO X5ii with Fidue A83 IEM's at the moment (Impedance 11ohms and Sensetivity 104db). What module should I be looking to upgrade to, as my X7 will come with the AM1.

I'd also like a little in reserve in case I change to full size, but at the price, don't mind having various modules for various uses, if that is sonically the best way to go.

Thanks

Darren

The AM1 is more than powerful enough for your A83.  Unfortunately hard to give any advice on another module unless I know what your other headphones are going to be.

I'd say no matter what upgrade to the AM2, because I didn't like the sound of the AM1 even with my IEMs. The AM2 is more than enough for your A83 and has plenty of headroom for full sized headphones from 32-250 ohm with a high sensitivity.
