First, they aren't junk files. If you want, say, the view you see when you open up a drive upon connecting it to stay the same, they store that info. They don't break any standards.

I know

But they can be destructive, at times. A Mac really should have the fundamental, basic, ability to read a writeable media without writing to it.

Which 250/300 ohm cans did you try?

I tried the X5 with my DT880 and HD600, and was pleasantly surprised that there was very little difference (properly volume matched with an SPL meter) - between the X5 and an NFB-12.

HD650 and DT990, I can get very loud output, but the soundstage is congested, kind of marginally better then closed can only.

I noticed that my HD650 sounded congested too, but that didn't really faze me because my amp synergizes amazingly well with the HD650.

Its week 3 with the X5 and Im astounded to say that the X5 passed all 3 accidental drop tests (no case) with no damage, dent, or scrathes. The same cant be said for the X3.

Ill be taking review pics asap before I drop it more.

Damn... dontcha just wish it had a mechanical hard drive, like the iPod Classic, so it becomes a write-off after just one accidental drop?

That's a nice review... Thanks

All the reviews have been good and very consistent.  X5 is a real winner. If they can just tighten up the feel and speed of the scroll wheel.

Thanks Joe worked a treat updated the library with no cards in(clearing the database),inserted the card and updated again, and back in business:beyersmile:

Oh, if that alone did the trick, then yes, that's a trick everyone should know: if changing to a different card (like what happened here because the tour unit changed hands), it is best to clear the database by doing an "update" without any cards inserted. Saves the X5 the pain of comparing the existing database with the new card and not finding a single match...

How long should it take the X5 to scan a card? I put in a 64gb card, pretty much loaded and it took quite a while to scan. Is there a way to use the card without scanning?

Yes you can browse the card without scanning. if the scan is on manual, you choice directory (folder icon) from the main menu then pick the card and browse.

Just remember though if you ever hit scan, it will scan all slots, it is not slot selective.

Media library update stuck halfway while updating, has anyone encountered this ?

It has been discussed before (search thread) and mentioned in reviews as well.
FiiO will release a new firmware which should fix that...
