Thanks mate for the quick response. Will try and replicate using similar setup.

i would use stock player folder view if only the font was small enough to fit album titles etc.

preachy idk how you label your gigs but with a lot of mine having band name all i see in folder view is "Phish - 2018-...n, OH (FLAC)"
That obviously doesn't work when you own all of the 2018 gigs. I mean i know it's one of the Ohio shows but yeah lol

*********
Anyway questions with Fiio settings------
-Lowpass filter mode - I would prefer it turned off completely but not that option. What are you all using and what is the "safest" in terms of not altering the sound as delivered by the mastering?
-Gain - This is for headphones only correct? Line out is hella loud and filled with bass so maybe i need to change the line out volume to not fixed
-Balanced turbo - what is this?
-Any way to make the Fiio lockscreen kick in after a longer duration?
-What is the ideal size for wallpaper? everything i try gets cut off

-USB Audio Player Pro --------
-Bit Perfect mode - Any reason to not have this on if i'm not using EQ etc? "When possible" is probably moot for me as I own nothing over 24bit FLAC
-Preferred embedded art - So, if I have NO cover.jpg or folder.jpg in my folder....it's still grabbing embedded art if I do have that, correct? If so I'm fine to leave it off - I prefer the cover.jpg but if there is not one please check for embedded image
-Screen orientation - I have it on "follow android settings" which for the fiio I guess means the static portrait mode?
-When I hit that button up top where the EQ is, what is that adjustable horizontal line for??
-How do you use either EQ? I see you can flip the switch and then what???
-What is "Morphit" and "Crossfeed"??
--Finally - How do you get this to remember the song you left off with? the last few times I've turned it on it shows me the last song i was listening to like 4 days ago. I feel like it's user error and I'm just not shutting the unit down the way it wants or something? I pause the track before i turn it off and just shut down idk.

I've tried "making sense" of this chart.
Never that successful.
Slow roll-off fits with my choice of amplification, yours may vary so filter is just another thing to fiddle with to your liking.

Pretty much every output on the X5III has a gain setting, turbo is just high gain for balanced output and "can be enabled in Settings->Audio settings after setting the Gain to High. And with the Balanced turbo enabled, the output power will increase by 500mW on the basis of High Gain mode" - FiiO - as of FW 1.1.9

Are you trying to keep screen lit for longer before auto lock?
UAPP and Neutron do have wake lock, so you can always just enable that and choose to lock the screen manually. otherwise go to settings display, Sleep - after (.25, .5, 1, 2, 5, 10, or 30) minutes of inactivity.

You could keep album artwork between 500x500 and 800x800 and have good performance. Anything higher and the custom kernel is even more imperative. I have artwork embedded in m4a/alac files at varying sizes and dimensions that aren't cropped poorly in UAPP, though in FiiO Music if a rather wide image it will be centered and edges not displayed.

Flat line up top in UAPP is USB Volume control slider if enabled. See first setting under Volume in UAPP for explanation.

You might find artwork too small during playback for landscape view, but the landscape view can make Parametric EQ in app purchase easier to view/manipulate. If not using this bit perfect has no reason not to be on.

And my least preferred FiiO Music snarled at me in Chinese and refused to play DSD 256 haha ..

Tagscanner can reduce album images already in tags on the entire SD card via USB connection - it's better to do it after 5-10 albums. However, if the images are not symmetrical, for example, 1200x1025, they will shrink them to what is the original. So the result is 500x427, which some player slows down in scanning. Probably the only mass change specialist.

Pleasantly in those player outputs, only Foobar, Gonemad (At 192 kHz enabled Settings / Sound / Playing/Enable custom sound system), MediaMonkey and Apollo were surprised, both with max 96 kHz output and 192 kHz playback. Unfortunately VLC can't bypass the Android mixer and end up at 48kHz. But they will play PCM 192 kHz. And I apologize for the bad memory, I was a little fabulous, the only Apollo couldn't play from directories. Thank you jkbuha for a simple test of players' ability verification.

I don't store live shows on the player. I only keep the actual releases (i.e., Dick's/Dave's Picks; Box Sets, etc.). When I want to listen to a live show, for instance one that I was at (like, oh, say May 8, 1977!), I download it from the archive and either load it to the SD card or play it OTG.

Brief update - thanks for all the extensive beta1 testing from the head-fi and 4pda community.

Kernel V3.0 entering second and final beta this week, with a good set of new functionality, including CPU Boost functions and preliminary support for DSD256.

Stay tuned...

Hello. The player just got it yesterday. I ordered to Aliexpress in the official Fiio store. Connected to wi-fi. Updated. Build number 1.2.4. I connected it to my computer, put songs in the Music folder (Flac and mp3). I plugged in my headphones, turned on Fiio Music, but the music didn't play. After a second delay, there was a loud click, noise and cracking in the ears. Changed to "music only" in the same way. Playback is in progress, but there is no sound of music. I tried on two headphones MEE audio Pinnacle P1 and Sony MDR-MA500. The noise is the same. On Fiio x5 / 2, they normally play. Installed two applications from the Play Market. They also crack and noise. I reset the "factory settings" but this did not help. I tried to connect the line output through the amplifier to the speakers. Again the noise. On the advice of people with w3bsit3-dns.com https://w3bsit3-dns.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=825351&view=findpost&p=84705629 https://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=825351&view=findpost&p=84717905 rolled off to the firmware 1.2.1. The result is the same. Tell me what to do?

I would first confirm you got a legitimate Fiio product via their website. Fiio representatives monitor this site so hopefully one will respond to your questions. You might also try the Fiio forum on their website. I personally have not experienced your issue. You may have a new albeit, defective product that needs to be returned. Good luck!

Anyone else beta testing the @jkbuha kernel 3?
I don’t know what the stock kernel sounded like now so I cannot A-B test.
I’m using UAPP in bit perfect mode and the music is just so alive.

The vocals are very clean... like before this kernel they were singing through a screen door. I don’t understand.
Drum sticks bouncing off snare drum heads, and tapping on hi hats are so clean. Were they like that before, because they’re amazing.
To hear the reverb the producers apply to vocals, and then try to guess how wet it is is running through my mind.
I wonder if the guitarist is using a pick, and then whipping their fingers down the strings... how many frets was that.
The special built microphones Celine sings into that compress when she is belting out her loudest, and then captures her just as clear when she’s practically whispering are amazing.
Another artist I was listening to I realized there was actually a background vocalist there that I hadn’t heard before. I mean music I’ve listened to for over 20 years is making me giggle today.
Extreme metal has a ton of separation perhaps even if each instrument was recorded separately it’s still cohesive. It’s amazing, the non clean growling, right there in front of me.
Some Andre Previn Nutcracker flutes sound nice and breathy, And what is that tambourine? I cannot remember the other song I heard a tambourine in, but wow they have a great sound.
Well there are other things I hear that I don’t understand how it’s so much better. The X5 III is magic.

Sound differences "should" only be dependent on the 'Android Sound Server Implementation" or AudioFlinger, found in system/lib/ as "libaudioflinger.so"
Some (myself included) have kept this file as it existed in official firmware 1.2.1, replacing what came in 1.2.4.

But when this thing does fire on all cylinders and you get to hear the music, I can't deny there's gonna be some euphony.
