Manual update via update zip file

a. Copy the zip update package provided by FiiO into the root directory of a micro SD card in TF card slot 1 of the X5 (or root directory of the X5III's internal storage). In the case of putting into the micro SD card, it is recommended to format the card to FAT32 or NTFS.
Note: The micro SD card with exFAT format is NOT suitable for upgrading the X5III.

b. With the SD card in the X5, turn on the X5III in Android mode and select "Technical support"->”Firmware Update” ->Local Upgrade - > external_sd1 (or internal_sd if you put the file in internal storage) and select the zip update

@FiiO I have problem with greek characters on album tag .the problem exist only with cue sheets not with individual files .i had the same problem on poweramp and i solve it choosing windows-1253 on tag encoding .but fiio music haven't such option .also the same problem exist with neutron and i contacted with developer and he said he will include windows-1253 at next update .
Can you tell to your developers include windows-1253 at next update .

Dear all, currently im looking for CIEM to pair up with my fiio x5 iii. Any suggestions? As far i heard UE 4 pro is good for beginners.. I need something that could provide wider sound stage and more details. And most importantly, no hissing when its paired up..

You should look into Alclair for CIEMs they lots of choices and are fairly priced. I have the RSMs and love them, i have had them well over 2 years too.

You copy the zip to the root, open the technical support app, and select firmware update. It's clean, easy, and fast.

I can confirm I get this issue when playing directly from folder view as fell. Also I note that if I unlock the device and try to hit play again it does resume playing from the beginning of the song.

I have also noticed that it takes a while for SD2 to be recognised by FiiO Music when first opening it. I have seen similar behaviour on other apps that read the external storage as well. It does appear to be the card either unmounting or timing out.

I think it has already been addressed in earlier firmware versions; I have some albums in aac that do not recognize me and others yes with version 1.1.6. Someone with the same problem? With Alac it's the same. However, in 1.1.4 I read everything and if not, I ran a re analysis and voila! there they were, which does not work in 1.1.6.

Only done a short audition recently at a local store to compare both. The store had both the standard Opus#1 and Opus#1 metal premium edition.

The Opus#1 is well built, and the price of the standard set is quite well priced. Depending on what music you listen to, I find it very neutral, a bit cold and analytical for my music preference. If you are into orchestra music, you may like it.

Saw quite a few comparison of the X5III with few other latest players in a different threads. I guess we have different hearings and preference, and our IEM/headphone pairings differ as well. A better way to decide, if possible, is to bring your favourite IEM/headphone, a SD card filled with your favourite songs to a decent store for audition. Not always possible for some places without good audio stores with choices, but if you are lucky to be near to one, try to do audition.

I share the same view. I tested Opus#1 (HKD$2,800 then, or about USD$360) and X5iii side by side then, trying to figure out which should I buy. Eventually, the demonstration of Ella Fitzgerald's Misty (and, to a lesser extent, Norah Jones' Tragedy) made me buy X5iii. I found that the Opus#1 demonstrated this song, in the words of @Marvellous_DAP, way too cold and analytical. On the other hand, Ella on X5iii was, to my liking, more sweet and intimate, just like her singing next to you. I used my Westone x Massdrop 30 SE IEM then.

I reckon it has been there for a while. One of the reasons for the play/ pause issue on the earlier FWs, methinks is the mSD 2 slot, amongst others.

I am on Low Gain, using Oriolus MK2, balanced out with 2.5mm plug. Volume around 35-40 mainly, though some files requires 45-50.

Just received my 2.5mm balanced cable for my Oriolus Mk2. It sounds really good!

You can get the PW Audio upgrade cable (I think it is a copper cable #5?) that comes with a 2.5mm balanced plug. I didn't get PW audio, but ordered mine from Plussound (silver+gold). Very nice sounding and good pairing with Oriolus MK2.

Upgraded to fw 1.16 manually. I dont use any other app than fiio music. Already performed a factory reset and cache wipe then rescan the library. There's a number of cue sheets that the player does not read (showed as unknown artist in library) and in file browser the folders containing these cue sheets and flac files are empty.

Very, very annoying. The player scaned and played these files perfectly on fw 1.14 (I skip fw 1.15).

You mean receiving the Bluetooth signal by the X5III and it send Bluetooth to caying N3? It seems not an avialable collection.
