no need to prove anything. man has his subjective preferences. i have v10, practically same thing, and yes, this is mighty phone. and i have my tricks to use it in high impedance mode with all headphones. and this thing can drive 300ohm cans too. well, 250ohm dt1770 - no problem. don't know better phone. and thats it. had two x3, still have first x5, and now x5iii, allready rooted and tweaked all possible ways, and other stuff - for music. for me clearly this is better. lg uses sabre dacs, so x7 is closer, and i compared that too. am3, am1 - and lg can't compete with that too. so - lg v10, v20, g6 (not castrated version) - are best phones for music, exellent cameras too and much more. and tha'ts it. and fiio can compete with best dap's, phones (or mac's) are irrelevant here.

Honestly i would have appreciated his opinion if he hadn't mentioned a MBP phone out jack. Audiophile or no audiophile that is just plain simple ridiculous!

Ok, so I figured... maybe I misheard something and the V20 is better than what I thought it was...and all these V20 users jumping in here to say how they've found Nirvana with the V20 (and how the issues with the downsampling and funky drivers...and 3rd party music support issues aren't happening over on the V20 thread).

I just played a bit of Diana Krall through the V20 again using my Venture Electronics Zen 2.0 earbuds (love those things).

The V20, in High Gain mode... sounds nice. Very airy... but somewhat artificially so (maybe I have an EQ setting on somewhere). I thought it was Great sounding. I then popped in my Zen into the X5iii. Nope. The X5iii sounded better in both the SE and especially in Balanced. My V20 will go back to duty as my phone, and I'll use it when I don't have other audio devices available. If you like the V20 signature, then more power to you. I'm happy to use mine as a phone.
The V20 though, is the best sounding phone that I've ever heard IMHO.

Can we get back on track with the X5 III related topics and discussions? Somebody prefer the V20 better than the X5 III, great, that somebody is entitled to his/her own opinion and I'm happy for that somebody. The discussion for the V20 should be brought to the V20 thread and let's get back to discuss X5 III.

Well said! +1  I'm hoping the new Firmware will do something about the USB out to external DACs.

  My firmware says - X5 V7-20170209

I does not show number like 1.1.0  etc. Also on wifi i see no upgrade that is available.

was this the last one ? or the first one where OTA was not working thus i see no updates?

Dear antz123,

You can get the build number from Settings(Android mode)--About device. Our OTA server is not quite stable and we will ask our engineers to have a look at it. Sorry if bringing inconvenience.

Best regards

@Fiio

I am using the x5 iii with my Sennheiser Momemtum 2 headphones (not balanced) but the icon for 'Balanced headphones' is on, in fact it stays on with any other non-balanced headphones I use.

Dear  metfan46,

This icon would appear in the status bar when you plug your 3.5mm headphone in the headphone port? Can the music be played normally? Does this issue happens in another headphone as well? What's the firmware version of your X5III?

Best regards

Dunno if this helps, but I returned an Ibasso DX90 a month or so ago.

I had problems with the interface and felt that Ibasso was not going to be forthcoming with FW updates (it had been six months or so since the last one at that time).

Soundwise I felt that the Saber DAC’s were not to my liking – too shrill in the highs –even after burn in I was unable to soften the tones using EQ and my Sony MDR1R (non Bluetooth).

You asked -just my one opinion YMMV.

Not to beat a dead horse, but do we have confirmation that 3rd Party Apps (Like HiBy Music and UAPP) do not use the full capability of this DAP?

Was running into problems with UAPP earlier, just wanted to see.

Hi there,

Having tried both the DX80 and the X5III (but more or less using an HD650). It would also have to depend on the headphones/IEM that you are planning to use. The DX80 based from memory had more of an analytical signature having Saber DAC might have something to do with that. As for the X5III, I found it more on the smooth side (which I actually preferred), not exactly less detail but had a much musical signature as compared to the DX80. I listen to rock and sometimes pop from time to time.

Take this with a grain of salt as I did not compare them side to side and its all from memory. I had the DX80 longer but sold it eventually because of minor firmware issues and the smaller screen wasn't to my liking. While I auditioned the X5III from a local audiophile store when it was available and am planning to buy one when I get the funds. Hope that helps

  Hi lonerboy13

Thanks for your information.

So Fiio x5 iii will your next DAP (upgrade from dx80) right?

I saw the price of them are quite same :)

I really wouldn't say upgrade as I had sold my DX80 quite a while back and have recently started wanting a portable setup after completing my desktop setup. I'm more or less inclined to say that the DX80's signature simply wasn't up to my liking having owned it for a couple of months. But in terms of functionality the X5III would best the DX80 having a better screen and streaming features.
