FiiO X5 2nd gen Impressions and Discussion thread

Let's not let the point get out of hand. I think what was trying to be expressed is that if there is more to be heard from more resolving headphones then the X5ii will be happy to oblige in providing the details. I wouldn't say that discounts how good it may sound with any other pair of headphones.

This is pretty ridiculous. I can definitely tell the difference between the x3ii and the x5ii with my 125 dollar GR07s and me new 180 dollar DN1000s. Soooo not sure how you can assume I can't appreciate the difference with "cheaper than the players" headphones.

Agreed. The difference between the X5 and X3II is readily noticeable with Koss KSC75's ($16).

So I got the x5II yesterday and loving it, I like it a lot. It even drives the dt 770's 250 ohm at 40/120 pretty well to my ears contrary to the 150ohm rating by fiio.I like the manual interface better than the dx90. Only thing left is to try the hd598 and lcd-xc and a/b it with the dx90.

FiiO is usually conservative with their numbers.

I love the X5ii and XC pairing by the way.

So I got my X5 2 today and have loaded it up with songs.
Im really impressed and can hear new things in song's I've heard hundreds of times eg different guitar and piano parts.
The only thing that is a bit annoying is adding song's (not that this is a surprise).
I've put some smashing pumpkins on and all apart from one are under 'the smashing pumpkins' and another artist album comes up unknown.
Is there an easy fix or do I need to download some software?
Going to take my one year old son out for lots of walks tomorrow so I can give the x5 a bit of quality time :-D

Hello Nik,

Try downloading mp3tag http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ to tag that "unknown" album :) You would need to tag the copy of the album on the SD card and update the media library on the X5 for the changes to take effect :)

Best regards,
Joe

@x RELIC x Here's the updated list of national tours of the X5 2nd going on in various countries, can you update the OP with it?

Some of these tours should still be accepting applicants.

Here is measurement of Fiio X5 2nd Gen.
Overall performances are pretty good, but IMD is quite disappointed.

The AK380 data are out of question, nevertheless the X5 II's 0.3% and 0.18% IMD are nothing to rave about. Harmonic distortion is low, and frequency response is good, though.

That was the first thing I had checked too. Just out of curiosity, how well does perform ak DAPs in comparation to Fiio.

I wonder what is up with that numbers, I thought that the lower they were, the better the results are?

The AK's measuring results are miserable. Incredibly high harmonic distortion and considerable channel imbalance. I suspect it's a defective unit.

I wonder why this happens. I only studied Ak240, and the numbers are bad for a device which is at the same price point with Chord Hugo. I mean, with those numbers, chances are that X5 could sound better.
SEEKO is measuring the DAP at max volume with 32ohm loaded by dScope series III. And they follows AES17 standard.

Maybe that data looks horrible because it's measured at max volume.

That should not be a reason for the numbers to be so bad about any DAP. Maybe people will use the DAPs at max volume?
