+1 Relic. Our test gear will be very similar
You should try the cans with the HO on high gain to see how the 40% more power can drive them. Push it Hakushondaima!
At 62 Ohm impedance and 105 db sensitivity the X5 II should easily be able to drive the K7xx, even on low gain.
The R70x maybe high gain, but again it should be enough from the X5 II.
I'll be testing LCD-XC, LCD-2 (pre fazor), AKG-K550, JH Angie with the X5 II. I'll also test it as a DAC feeding e12 and Oppo HA-1. As a source using coaxial to the HA-1 as well, so don't lose the coaxial accessory fellow Canadians!
Soooooooo looking forward to it. Most interested in comparing it to the first gen.
Posted this on the R70x thread last night (someone wanted to know if the X5ii could drive the HD600):
"Don't know about the HD600, but I'm running the ATH-R70x (470 ohm rating) without an amp right now. Listening to some Cannonball Adderley ("One For Daddy-O" from Something' Else) and the sound is more than acceptable (verging on max. volume at 110/120, on high gain). Pleasing enough, though horns have just a hint of graininess to them. Listened to the same tune earlier from LO to the E12A (high gain, volume at around half), and the difference is not huge, though with the amp horns are a lot smoother... beautifully so, penetratingly sweet and no harshness. While not QUITE as good on its own, the new X5 definitely seems to have some amplification chops!"
Was doing some A/B listening to R70x and K7XX this afternoon using my home stereo (Marantz NR1501 has a pretty decent headphone amp) and the K7XX needed MORE juice than the R70x to drive to equivalent volume!
The thread in HWZ has disappeared. And anyway how are reviewers to get a proper impression of the X5ii when the local tour only allows for 3 days of use as proposed by Eng Siang?
Just yankin' your chain, x Relic x... Coax is there.
Calling all themers! Calling all themers!
With 5 themes to choose from, y'all got some work to do
Joe Bloggs: Will the FW Tools be available soon?
5 times the amount of work!! Just kidding!
Would be nice if we could use the old unpack tools. Have you tried it nmatheis?
No Windows anymore, so I can't unpack the FW
If they left FW on it, I'll send a copy to you to see if you can get it unpacked and Star Trek-ified for me
Oh, right, we need the FW file first............ D'Oh!!
Equalizer works with line out?
