FiiO X5 2nd gen Impressions and Discussion thread

No, not while charging. And yes, the computer recognizes it on usb as storage mode, but not as DAC mode. Also, is there a way to not charge the X5 II while docked in the K5? I think that will mess up the battery as well... I use it a lot on the k5, so the X5 II is always fully charged...
Dear friend,

I need to confirm more information of the collection:
1. When collecting the X5II directly to the computer, both storage and DAC mode work well?
2. When docking the X5II in the K5 and collecting to the computer with the square USB cable comes with the K5, only storage mode works well?
Please check whether you have installed the DAC driver and switch the USB mode to DAC as well. Then you can select X5II as sound device in your computer.

When the X5II is docking in the K5, power is supplied to the device as follows:
1. While the device is charging
Because the computer USB port has limited current capacity, the battery is given priority for part of the charging current while the rest powers the device directly. But if the current draw by the device is high, the battery participates in powering the device as well. Hence, both the battery and the USB port take part in powering the device while the device is charging.
2. After the battery is full
Because there is no need to charge the battery anymore, the USB port would power the device directly. The battery would neither be charged nor discharged.
In summary of the above, the powering scheme of the X5II ensures that the battery may be fully charged while at the same time guaranteeing proper function of the device. Finally, the battery will be at rest after it is fully charged, thus guaranteeing extended battery life.

Best regards

I did as you asked and yes the blue LED on the power button turned off after one minute. So seems like I can assume my deep sleep is engaging properly at this point. How much battery drain is normal while in sleep mode?

Dear friend,

The standby current of the X5II is smaller than 5mA. The X5II can stay in standby mode for about 1 month after fully charged.

Best regards

Just as reported previously by other posters. X5 II heats a bit. Nothing too much,
but more than X3 or else.

I found that to depend heavily on the weather and ambient temperature.

While in Bucharest, at around 40C outside and ~40 - 45C inside, X5ii heats, but in a colder place with a lower temperature, X5ii is barely warm to the touch, at least in my experience. At 15 - 20 C ambient temperature, it is cold to the touch...

We love our vampires, Romania is where vampires started from!

45 degrees C INSIDE...
Yikes!!

And I might buy an AC unit to lower that temp, but my room is on the highest floor so the temp will still be not that much lower since the building is poor and the wals themselves heat a lot...

1- No, only storage mode works, DAC mode doens't.
2- Works as storage, not as DAC.
Yes I do have the driver installed.

Hi folks,

New member here. Joined the community to get some help with a recently-purchased Fiio X5 2nd gen...

I purchased my X5 2nd gen a couple of weeks ago and loaded up all of my music files on two 128 GB sd cards. I updated the firmware to the latest version and made sure that all non-supported files are not found on any of the cards.

When I insert both cards into the device, I can view and play all of my music files via the file browser. However, when I finish building my library (before I build it, I reset the media library, along with resetting all of the factory settings for good measure), I get a notification that no music is found on the device. I go back to the file browser, and now I receive a load file error (or something along those lines; paraphrasing here), and no files can be viewed. In the Fiio info screen, it shows both cards with their correct capacities/availablities, but with 0 songs.

What's odd is that I can successfully build my library when only one of the cards is inserted into the device (I tested this on both cards, so I don't think there is a file issue at play here). When I use one card, everything works according to design. But both cards together cause the aforementioned issue. When they are both first inserted, I can view all of them in the file viewer, but attempting to build the library results in the same problem, time and time again.

Any suggestions, tips, or tricks? This is extremely frustrating, especially since the device can potentially solve all of my old iPod storage capacity issues while providing greatly improved sound as well.

For what it's worth, I have about 58,000 songs, most in AAC format (since I've used iTunes up until now), and I'm operating a MacBook Pro. Each card has about 5 GB of available space on them.

You might have too many songs there...

Yeah, I was wondering about that... Can't find any documentation about song limits for the device since they made it "unlimited" with a firmware update some time ago.

Do you have that new firmware installed?

Also, all songs have their artwork embedded? This can cause problems, especially if the embedded artwork has high resolution.
