FiiO X5 2nd gen Impressions and Discussion thread
Jun 13, 2016 at 3:50 PM Post #5,371 of 7,088
Hello,

I am looking for a cable to run from my X5ii to Mojo.   I am trying to not spend $75 for this from moonaudio simply because I am not sure how often I will use that combination together, but I would like the ability to do so.   Does any one know if there are cheaper options to connect the 2 devices?

Thanks
Mike
You could purchase the following via ebay: "Dyson Audio Fiio Chord Mojo 75 Ohm Digital Jumper TRRS/TS 3.5mm"

The Dyson cable works great, and great service!

For me firmware 2 has another bug.
It won't play gapless with my flac and wav rips.
I'll roll back and test then roll forward again and see what happens.
I'm not happy spending $500.00 on a player thank can't play gapless.

That's really strange as gapless works just fine for me on 2.0 on FLAC and ALAC files. Silly question, but did you double check that the update didn't reset your gapless setting?

Yup It was/is on.

The odd thing is it just happened after it was reported by Nekro.
He's obviously bad luck.

I have to do some more testing later.

I've discovered the problem lies in my ripper and NOT the X5ii player.
The ripper I've been using is the PonoMusicWorld (JRiver)
The gapless option is on and is fine with the Pono but doesn't seem to work with the Fiio (I tested flac, wav & mp3)
Fortunately for me EAC does.

Sorry to the good folks at Fiio for being such an alarmist.

I just got an IEM recently.

The X5 2nd can drive my V-Moda XS headphone well but, this Ocharaku IEM I owned... can't release full potential till I introduce my old E11K Amp to it.

Any amp I should get? Like E12A or is there any other options?

Chord mojo too ex for me currently.

blazinblazin,we suggest you try the E12A with the X5 2nd at your local stores, and you will find the right one for yourself.

I haven't tried the E12 but because I use portable on-ears (Beyerdynamics DT1350) and IEMs (Westone UM Pro30) my FiiO retailer suggested that the E12A would be a better choice because it's quieter when using the IEMs. The E12A has ample power and I really like the bass boost feature when I want a bit more bass oomph. It primarily elevates the sub bass region without bleeding into the mids. A very good portable amp.

Gave in an bought one of these. I have to say, I'm pretty impressed so far. Aside from the vague scroll wheel (which might have been fixed via a later firmware), the player is easy to use for the most and provides great functionality.

The thing that's impressed me the most so far though is the sound... it reminds me of the old iRiver H120 I once had, except taken even a step further. It's smooth, engaging, and sufficiently transparent. Bass is taut, plentiful and one of the highlights. Highs are a tad rolled off, but I like it this way as I don't get fatigued as fast. Imaging is pretty good as well. Drives my picky Grado HP1000's very well on the low gain setting. The only real drawback that's immediately apparent is the soundstage is a bit closed in, but you can't have it all in a $300 do-it-all portable.

Overall this is quite easily the best sounding DAP I've heard, albeit I haven't heard too many.

I bought a used Fiio X5ii on Amazon and it was bricked in 3 weeks. The main problem was it stopped taking a charge and would no longer power on. I loved it for the time I had it but am wary about ordering another one. I am I obviously buying new this time. The question here is has anyone else had their Fiio X5ii mysteriously cease working?

Hmmmmm, maybe just a poorly maintained product by the original owner. Even Fiio support recommended I send it back because they didn't have any cases like this. I'd like to mention that Fiio support was quick to respond and very helpful (thanks, folks!!!!) I am awaiting my refund and I will definitely buy new this next go-around.

Hey all,

Not sure if this is too off-topic, but I was recently able to take a tour of FiiO's factory. See the link below:

http://www.head-fi.org/t/812274/fiio-factory-tour-2016

I couldn't quite take pictures of the X5ii actually being assembled, but I do have some pictures of FiiO's other DAPs on the assembly floor.

Hopefully somebody finds this interesting!
