:) Anyway I have this DAP and I am pretty satisfied. And COWON products are fat & bulky and the price are too. That’s were the batteries are I guess.
Just remember its a DAP and not a DVP :D

I use M6 in Italian.
In the Settings -> General -> Sleep Timer menu the items: Sleep and Idle poweroff are inverted.
That is, if you set IDLE POWEROFF, M6 turns off after the set time regardless of whether you are using it or not (so it is basically a sleep) and when you turn it on again the timer is reset
If you set the SLEEP, it will not turn off if M6 is making music, at the indicated time, but if you pause or stop FiiO Music then turn off (so it's an IDLE POEWEOFF) and especially when you turn it on again, the timer turns out to be set .
Report to @FiiO the problem.

We have tested it on our side and found the M6 works as intended-- 1). If it's set to 'Idle Poweroff', the device will only turn off after the fixed set time is up when the music is NOT playing. 2). If it's set to 'Sleep', the device will turn off regardless of whether it's playing or not.

So if your M6 is working in the opposite way, would you pls kindly do a factory reset for a try? If the problem still exists, pls kindly contact our tech staff by sending email to support@fiio.com to get after-sales service, thanks!

dude c'mmon, this Fiio is a DAP (digital audio player), shouldnt be that obvious to you?
anyway my suggestion for apple came from sarcasm -.-"
if you want serious oppinion, i would suggest COWON products. most their product support video player and have good sound quality plus they have longer lasting battery.
geez people now a day are really made from thin papper, really takes everything seriously

Is there any hope for google play music to be whitelisted as it’s the only music service I use? I won’t buy one without it.

M6/M9 is not designed to an fully android based DAP cause the Soc has limited resource and performance.

I am surprised why you dont take into account the glaring fact that this is a wearable SoC. I am afraid it has its limitations even though it runs a stripped down version of android. Having said that google music is something they could try to whitelist, however if has some sort of licencing/permission required from google to make it useable i dont see that happening.

To me, Google Play Music is a lighter weight application than even Spotify so the SOC isn’t the issue...I almost guarantee it’s the licensing thing you mention. But who knows...

And yes, I’ve taken it into account. I just do everything through GPM so I’d like a nice sounding, affordable DAP to stream my music without using my phone or iPad. If it’s not possible, it’s not possible. I’ll get a dedicated amp.

Unfortunately, even after the factory reset, the behavior has not changed.
I will send email as suggested.
