No, I mean trying to apply FW 1.0.4 always fails with the installer crashing; I have 1.0.3 installed now. It fails regardless of whether I use your online installer, or try to install it from the local image i downloaded from your site. I'll reedit this post from the M17 and add some screen captures. I have around 40 Gigs free on both the internal and external SDs.

As Ben86 recommended I'll try a factory reset and try the FW update again.

Update:

I cleared the data and cache of the update app. Then tried the firmware update for the 4th or more time...

Downloading...

Downloaded and ready to be installed. I clicked install...

BOOM. It crashes immediately every time.

This is how the Update app looks . Nothing to see here as far as I can tell...

You have any ideas? Could there be an annoying Android security setting that needs to be applied? Any idea what ?

I said I was going to try a system reset as someone suggested. But I think now I'd really like to avoid that. Hope you can assist here.
Just a simple thing: But have you restarted the M17 at all? Try doing that before running the updater.

Second, make sure that the updater is on the internal storage.

If you have done both and it still fails, then I'd just go for the factory reset. It's going to be faster than trying to track down exactly what specifically is causing it to screw up, unless someone knows where to find crash logs and the like in Android.

Yep. I've done those things. Unless I hear of a security setting that may need changing or whatever else from FiiO a factory reset will be the only recourse.

Yep, stated a few posts back, but I have done this too. I have done this several times. I have downloaded the 1+ gig package from you site 4 or 5 maybe more times since you announced its release. :frowning2:
Dear m8o,

Please try to clear the data then restart again for check:

@FiiO
I remember that it was commented somewhere that future updates would allow the player x16 upsample( 768Khz, or 705.6Khz) as currently limited to x8; is that the case or this will not be implemented? I cannot remember if it was a hardware limitation or not.

Yes, I had already tried that on maybe my third try. And just tried that again. Firmware update app continues to crash immediately.

Is there a system log or crash log i can send you? you will need to tell me where I get it from.

Edit: I got fed up and just did a system reset, erasing all data and resetting it back to default. And the system is telling me it is now at FW 1.0.4 [!!!]. It was definitely at 1.0.3 before. ; the system wouldn't keep telling me to apply the firmware update if it was already at 1.0.4. There definitely was not enough time to download the firmware again during the system reset; the firmware update itself is a few times longer than the whole system reset's time. But it is at 1.0.4 now. Something is not right.

M17 desktop users you should be getting ready for a real treat that is going to enhance performance by a fair margin!
It will be nice if:
- all-to-DSD is updated to support up to DSD256 or more instead of the current DSD64 only.
- the fan is not needed anymore when on DC mode (I sometimes forgot to turn it on, and the unit got too hot and shut itself off on me after a while)
- the enhanced over the ear feature is available with BAT mode.

A renewed partnership with Viper4Android? Or Toneboosters? Or finally rolling out their own DSP / PEQ implementation?

Dear hardpike,

Do you mean MQA 8x? Since the SOC can only support up to 384kHz at present, local playback can only support up to DSD256 playback at present, but we are currently studying how to make the main control support 768kHz, and then it can support DSD512 playback.

Best regards
